I did something silly (Surge protector)

Yup never put the surge protector into the inverter :)
So everything in my house flows through an inverter since we have solar so i shouldn't use a surge protector? I do understand the inverter acts as a surge protector but we have a item here and there still on surge protectors (those big red Ellies one)... Its been like that since Feb when we got solar and nothing has happened...

It surprises me that something potentially so serious is not in the manual in big red letters. I did the same thing when I got my trolley and luckily read some posts on here telling people to never do it.

Well to be fair they probably don't worry so much about surge protection, hell in SA up to 2008 it also was the last thing on my mind.

2020 and beyond its now become a necessity, esp the delayed start ones like
Clearline Fridge protect : That only returns power 5 mins after load shedding ended, giving your area power more time to "settle"

So do I, but those inverters plugged into the DB are grounded, well hopefully. I know mine is they ran a massive earth cable.

Newer fridges honestly don't use that much, even on startup but I hear you. My new fridge and freezer on startup spike to 800, whereas my old one used to go over 1200, even running the 2 new ones will run at 150

Dont use it for my fridge, using it on the inverter. Helps protect for under voltage as well, only start 5 min timer when V is high enough & stable:

Not as low as it normally drops, ie I have seen far worse and thats where It helped prevent brownouts into my equipment.

I wonder if this is related to an issue we have, where on the generator the tv will go off and tthen I have to unplug the ellies surge protector and plug it in again to get the tv on?

Is the generator plugged into the DB via a switch? Cause if it's not grounded, it's more then likely

Lemme guess your generator isnt grounded?

If yes: Like to live on the edge?

Small portable generators that you run extension leads from you don't need to ground, but if they've got it running into the DB, it should definitely be grounded, I mean they have the grounding pins on them for a reason.

Duh, it's standing on the ground permanently, who keeps their generator in the air?!

The genny feeds into the db where hellkom comes in as well, which in turn feeds the house db and flat db board

Funny :-P does it have an earthing cable running from the ground pin to the ground or to an earth pin? Generally if you look at your house you could find a thick black rubber pipe running out from your DB to somewhere outside.
