I have been very busy of late and yesterday afternoon whilst loading a few cans of beer into our shopping trolley with the odd bottle of Vodka, my better half blurted out, " I hate Christmas....... I shall be happy when all of this is over...."

I almost replied on impulse to the woman known as my wife, almost...... Fearing her statement had been an intentional one.....

She continued as I pushed my shopping trolley towards the car parked outside, " It's just loud music and drunk people and wasted food...... All I have to do is worry about everything......I hate this time of the year..."

I could not contain myself any longer and replied, " do everything, like what?" , to be met by a long list of chores...

I recall last year she managed to turn my mood into a miserable one, if she ain't happy, I ain' t happy....
On my roadtrip back to University with my daughter, she commented at how this year had not been as festive as previous years and she was right, I had allowed the one non drinking, non meat eating, non loud music enthusiast to sublimely tone down my festive period.... And she was doing it again this year...

It was afterall not my fault she did not like the jolly time or the jolly juice......

It still bothered me as to why she did not enjoy the time of year and I rushed to my good mate, Doctor Google to find answers....

Turns out, according to Australian researchers as much as 80% of married couples have a tense time over Christmas, with one of the duo not embracing the Christmas spirit, in fact the time of the year places tremendous stress on some marriages.....

I was relieved and have decided to pump Slade extra loud this week as I enjoy a few cold one's.....

Any of you couples have a similar issue?

I am with your wife on this. I am a Grinch when it comes to Christmas. I hate the music that they force onto you when doing shopping. People leave their brains at their place of work during this time, especially on the roads. No wonder there are such a huge amount of accidents this time of the year. Ho Ho Ho my a$$!

It's a long holiday & in a lot of households the wife is still doing all the chores around the house because nobody else does it. And when the rest of the house is on holiday there's an endless stream of washing & cleaning & ironing & cooking & blah blah blah that everyone expects to be done but only one person is doing. Not that this is the case in your crib, just...I can imagine why it pisses some people off if that's their home setup.

While I’m not overjoyed for Christmas I don’t really mind it.

Would gladly skip the Christmas tree and all that nonsense but don’t mind the entertaining and good excuse for a party or two.

New Years can **** right off though.

Xmas is not what it used to be.We also hate this time of the year
Shops rip you off on everything. It's all about money, greed and who bought what for who and the bragging rights.
The waste of food is staggering as well
This year my SO and I decided to have a nice oxtail for lunch and not all the traditonal fare.

Almost all the family are either dead or emigrated so it's not as good as in the past but I still embrace it because it's time to relax and have lots of fun before busy January month.

My OH on the other hand hates Christmas since he can remember. Every year I try make it my mission to try turn it around, so can relate to the OP.

I'm sorry for your loss

I can't fathom how the people working at the big chain stores can stand that loud, sh..t music for the whole day.
It makes me crazy after five minutes.

Moose, I hate to say this mate but you might need to do some introspection on all of that.
Im going to side with your wife on this, not because I hate Christmas, but I can understand why many women hate it.
Heck even your picture you posted shows exactly why, some people having a great time just chilling and drinking and a bunch of stressed out women working to try get everything done.

Honestly if you want her to enjoy the time then tell her to sit back and enjoy some cold ones, while you do all of the things she would have. Im sure she wouldnt object to that at all.

So why am I saying all of this? its because I have watched my wife/mother/MIL etc doing it for years and its just a stressful time for them, its not enjoyable at all.

Christmas is a PITA , have to pay staff bonuses whether we do well or not .
Coastal town so traffic is horrendous , drunk people every where , over eating .
Expectations/obligations to visit relatives or they visit you ,,,,,,,,,,, naa just a PITA

+1, I hate this forced happiness...mostly fake happiness...It's why I prefer working this time of year and take my leave any other time.

Try having a birthday 6 days before Christmas, 90% of friends and family are away since the 16th in SA, I've had two birthday parties in my 38 years, one when I was 6 and one when I was 30.

I see your 16th and raise you 25th

If it's any consolation Capricorns are awesome.

The 19th :( having it on Christmas Day wouldn't be so bad as you'll at least get your present on your birthday :(
