I Don't Like Christmas - Bah! Hambug!

You should go into writing morty. Always a pleasure to read one of your stories.
I don't like christmas either, usually one of the most boring days of the year... and jingle bells drives me insane.
 
Christmas brings the whole Sodom and Gomorrah to town. The whole place is a cesspool of alcohol and orgies. In the shopping mall parking lots, the beach, the streets.... Everywhere. Everything is filthy..... Busy.... People losing their brains. Screaming, shouting, pushing, shoving, peeing on the pavements......

I don't think it is that it is not there when Christmas is over, It is just a 100 times worse. Non-one has respect for each other, everyone on the road is drunk driving or angry because someone is drunk driving.... Its just chaos and a rush.

Anyways this Christmas I am escaping to a small drought stricken town. The shops will be closed, the Schools empty, only living creatures you'll find on the streets are the cows or one or two drunks looking for their cows..... There will be carols at the churches and most of the town at someone's home having a dinner while the old people play bingo at the old age home.

One day I will have my Filipino island. Then it is just Me, my wife, my pigs and my goat.

Well it's quite magical that there are giant balls of gas that we can see. The only thing that's not magical is the idea that it can influence your life in anyway.
 
I would like a more relaxing Christmas to be sure but as we get older and its all about the kids and the family gatherings it does get stressful. The wife in particular basically owns all the Christmas shopping and as organised as she generally is at getting it all done months in advance there is always that difficult gift or two that takes up until the week before to get or finish. I try take the load off her as much as possible.

Some things we have done to simplify it a bit:
Said no to some of the events. We often did a big thing at our place on the 16th Dec for friends and New years days for family and now we generally don't do either. The friends never reciprocated or shared the load and honestly we see a ton of family that time of year without an additional get together. Others can also take a turn if they want it that much.

We also cut down on the gifts. We have a huge family all who live in JHB and we draw a name for the adult gift, and then spend a bit more on that one gift. We still buy for all the young one's however but that cut the gifts in half which was great.

Otherwise I enjoy the season, and while it can be very busy and exhausting the excellent food makes up for a lot of it as well as spending time with family etc. I generally look forwards to it. The wife does too but she does take a bit more strain at this time of year. I try relieve that as much as possible via helping out.

And on topic. I've only spend two of my years with a wife on Christmas. Oh, make that three. :unsure:
Can't recall anything bad or good happening. But this year i'll spend it with the girl of my dreams. :cool:
 
When we were younger the SO and I always went all out for xmas/Diwali etc. As we got older we realised that a schlepp it was. And it was always us doing the work while everyone else enjoyed.

So now we cut down on all the extra schit and just do some basic stuff that makes us happy. Screw the rest.
