Hm.
Bullet Points as this is a lot to read;
> Have p8 lite for 3.5 years, great phone, but busy breaking
> See p20 lite and think, nice replacement
> Contemplate buying one and see Vodacom contract
> 299/m with R120 airtime notbad.jpeg
> Total cost is R7100~ after 24 months vs R5999 if I buy it cash (Takealot)
> Go and apply at Vodacom
> Get told I can leave with device today (It's 3:45 PM)
> Get told process takes 4 hours and ill know by tomorrow
> Expecting phone call - no call.
> Wait 4 hours. Call Vodacom. Nobody knows me.
> You have my ID, phone number (im a vodacom customer) and CC details, but sure, you don't know me.
> Get told I have to wait they'll get a guy to call me
> 3 hours no call
> Call again, they say guy who was helping me is busy with customer and will call back ASAP.
> No call, he left and went home.
Okay? You don't want money? Thnx Vodacom
> Go to cellucity, maybe it's faster/better service
> Better service definitely
> Ask if I can do it through them, sure no problem
> Nobody calls me back
> Call them, guy who helped me went home already
> Ask new guy to help me
> Says I was declined
> What
> Says I only qualify to buy the device up front and I can buy the airtime package at a reduced rate.
> Thanks champ, that's just what I had in mind, buy a phone cash and then still pay for it regardless.
> Write an email stating that I want to know exactly what in the T&C's says I'm declined.
> No response
> First guy communicates with me saying they're working on it.
> Get SMS from Vodacom 2 days later saying 'My profile and vetting etc has been approved'
> Goodnews.jpeg
> Time to get phone yea boi
> Get told I was approved.
> But not for the tariff I applied
> I don't qualify for R299/m
> Wat
To be fair, they did say they would see if they could get my tariff's increased. But, the fact that I don't qualify for R299/m is ridiculous.
I can piss R300 out in seconds. I could probably earn R300/day begging on the street if I wanted to. I only did this for the convenience and the extra airtime is a bonus and the idea of a new contract 2 years down the line sounds quite legit. Upgrade every 2 years? Yes please. But hey, who wants my money?
All in all, it's not really an issue, I'll just buy one cash if I have to, but it's the principle of it. Why don't you want my money. I've got barely any expenses every month, I sure as hell earn enough to pay R300/m.
In fact the lack of expenses might be the issue? I have never had any debt other than a Capitec Loan and a Gym Membership and I've never missed a payment.
