I bought my edge data card and sim right when Virgin just started- doing my bit to break up monopolies, i decided to stick it out- thru all the ups and downs- the problem is that I got VM for dta purposes- I have not been able to connect since November- logged numerous calls- and they keep blaming Cell C.

Now I want to cancel my sims and get them to take the edge card back- i feel that it can not do the job it was sold to do- so take it back, give me my money . We will see what happens now- they are going to call me back- yeah right - heard that little diddy for the last year.

Good luck getting them to take it back! They really are useless though, expected more from a Virgin company.

Yep. I think that CellC and Virgin are there own worst enemies. I don't think that it is MTN and Vodacom's fault that CellC is so far behind...

Got a call from Cell C this morning - they are going to test the signal-
Feel kinda special that they will go to all this trouble to keep little ol' me as a customer.

Let's see, maybe teh Eastrand can finaly get some service.

I bought a Virgin simcard for data purposes. Must say that i havnt had any trouble with signal.

I'm using my old cellphone which only has GPRS, but i'm getting 4kb/sec on the conenction.

They are a new company..guess they still have to work out some problems. But if you looking for cheap GPRS access...use Virgin.

I can see you still a virgin with virgin,as you dont really know what you are getting into, just wait a month, then you will quickly change your tune:cool:

In defence of Virgin (seems like somebody has to here!), I decided to add VM to my stack of data SIMS right at the start -- and there were indeed several weeks of frustration. But the VM guys were helpful to an extreme, and now the glitches seem to have settled, certainly where I live in the (remote) NWP. I get a good and mostly uninterrupted VM signal (through the local VC mast which carries CellC) most days, at a reasonable speed, and absolutely don't begrudge paying my wonderful 50c/MB on prepaid.

That said, I would never put all my data eggs in one VM basket -- I would strongly suggest anyone else going the VM route keep a backup VC or MTN SIM active just in case.

I was one of the very first VM data users- before they even had 128k sims in teh country - like i said all went well up to Sept - then the wheels came off.

I like the cost - that is the only reason I stuck it out so long -I have all the others as back up - including an isdn that i can use in the day- It is just frustrating - If u offer a service - make it work - or leave it!

It is no use to any-one if it works intermittedly

Either that or he got very lucky. :D

Definitely not a VM newbie! Been with them right from the start, and although their Helpdesk staff were not very clued-up when it comes to data, my own experience during the famous 128K simcard swap was favourable, with their staff going out of their way to assist and even bring me a new card in person. If that isn't service what is? They're trying hard, give 'em a break guys!

I had two guys from Cell C at my house last night- we have run thru the gauntlet of software, hardware - now - as a last resort I will go and get a new sim- cause it seems to work fine with a Cell C simm- but goes pear shaped with the VM sim- lets see

What sort of Virgin sim were you using? Can't see that making a big diff ..
Maybe CellC is choking VM data ''',,,

I am very, very... very happy with my Virgin Mobile service, took a while to get it going nicely, and I am only using it with GPRS and Opera Mini

However, it means I can use the PC on the net during the day for next to nothing, Telkom can go play with their toys, I am sooooooo happy

As a bonus, I can go out to the shops or whatever, and if I am waiting in line, I can go on line with Opera Mini, read the bits of the newspaper, check out some posts on myadsl, and look up a few things... at a cost of about 5 to ten CENTS !!!!!!!!!!!!! - for the whole session, and when its my turn in the line, I close up the phone and can pick up were I left off anytime at no extra cost

Damn you Telkom, the game is up

Off topic sorry for derailing....but can someone post a link to how does one actually start the process of porting to Virgin?
