I dont think you remember me.Yes i know you love my name :p

We applied for Adsl in May.On Aug 15 they phoned and said Installation would take place on Aug 16 which it did.Funnily it wasnt a Telkom techie but actually 2 very friendly gentleman from Teljoy. They fixed my line as it had terrible interference and then installed the necessary.

Now i have the 384 package. We are on the HomeDsl bundle and we got the Usb Modem that is working fine.

My questions are:

1.I have a 2 gig package. Is Telkom still allowing 'uncapped' internet.I mean a few months ago they were allowing people to exceed the cap.Has alot changed?

2.Is there any way of reducing the speed to 192kbps? As id rather have a slower connection so i dont hit the cap so quick (i KNOW its SAD!!!)

Thanks for any help

Matt

according to the ICASA act telkom only has a 30 day install time of ADSL lines,

and Local bandwith should not be caped - they do everything their own way these day's

Apparently they are still. Most users report in excess of the allotted cap - probably up to 7 gigs or so in your case. Just beware that if you get capped at 2.01 gigs there is nothing you can do about it!

If you are just going to be browsing there shouldnt be much need to reduce speed as it wont use that much bandwidth anyway. And if you are downloading stuff, then you can always just download less or stop when you near your cap...

Ok thanks.

So there is no chance of telling whether you will be capped or not?
Is it just by luck?

Also im going to telkomsa.net and 'usage tracker'.but everytime i put my username and password in i get a 'login unsuccesful' error :(.
il use the software that is at that sticky

ITS BAD! - i got it enable this morning at 9.Went to college and came back at 1.And ive already klapped 200 megs worth of mp3 etc :( I cant control myslelf :(

There are many different packages you can get to work the best. If you can afford it rather get TelkomInternet 3GB and OpenWeb Local Only.

Use RouteSetry to let all local traffic go via OpenWeb and download mp3s etc from local DC++ hubs and I.S news servers.

nope it's a shame i know...

Thanks guys.

ok help me!!! when i go to 'usage Tracker' and input my details the page comes back saying i have 0mb download or upload ?

Whats up with thatt :(

hmmm... just a question, with your line, you said you had interference...
What type of interference was it? and how did they fix it?
I am having quite a problem and hear static/scratchy noises which actually affects my dail-up speed.:(

I hope they fix it as i also ordered ADSL am and now waiting for the installation:mad:

Peppercorns

MY DAMN line was wrapped around TREES,shrubs, running over the swimming pool and just a terrible job by the last techies :(

The ports were OLD.The guys from Teljoy replaced them and ran the line in a much better route. The line is crystal clear. The interference im talking bout was the scratchy noises and crackling. It does affect dialup big time.I used to have HELL with my dialup.

Hopefully you get 2 extremely friendly gentleman like i did thatl sort the lines out before installing the dsl. They mustve have been here for 4 hours.Awesome work they did

Thanks guys.

erm.... use the tracker on saix - its much beta than telkoms shyty one ( i want to put up the link but im not sure I can. debie is the only one that actually reads the terms and conditions )

Thanks Gangstarr - could you possibly pm the link for that saix tool.
The one i downloaded is outdated and doesnt work anymore.

Its really irritating cuz yesterday was my first day of adsl. And i klapped 315 mbytes.I knew i was getting outta control but it would have been nice to know exactly how much im downloading :(

So basically with my 2 gig package i should leave about 100 or 200 meg for the last day of the month. Then download as much as possible to see if i get capped? What methods do you guys suggest.
