A friend of mine was hacked a month ago as well...he had 3 lvl70 chars and a twink which was robbed naked and all but his main was deleted. Blizz asked him to ensure his PC is virus and trojan free and they gave gim back all his chars with all his gear...he lost his gold though.
i have seen ppl advertising dodgy links official wow forums, usualy ending with .html, they usualy have dodgy topics like wow sex or someting like that if you visit those links you get the trojan, downloading gold guides, addons anything like that with keyloggers.
Well people pay then to farm honour in bg and arena bg check AV theres always a few bot in bottom of map going from cave to mine all the time.Although I have never purchased gold, I still do not see how they would hack me if I did?

So people steal your accounts and then steal your stuff? oh man that sounds like a good way to get lots of free gold etc. I can only imagine how upset people must get considering WoW has taken over the lives of a few of the people in my clan. Personally I dont have the patience for the game but I can feel for you when someone steals your hard earned stuff.

They have also been hacking accounts to use to transfer money from the gold sellers. I know 2 people who had their accounts hacked and then found out they had been banned due to illegal selling of gold

Indeedly, that's why I said I can understand farming of honour, but I asked how does one hack your account by purchasing gold as you stated in your OP.

People have the tendency to use the same password for everything and a lot use the same passwords on forums (like myadsl). These forums can easily be hacked to retrieve your password.
1) Don't browse gold sites
2) Don't use the same username/password for everything e.g I have a few passwords and depending on how important that thing is to protect, I'll use that 'level' password.

I also had my account hacked a few months back, and its really a horrible feeling you log into your account and your character is standing there naked. Hell they even vendor sold my bank bags !!!!
The most common way they hack your account is via activeX webpages with keyloggers. Only advice I can give you is DONT use IE.
I now only use Firefox. If you browse a lot of WoW related sites, and read forums, you sometimes end up following a link with a keylogger installed. Using firefox you see how it blocks remote exploits.
As for getting your gear back... Yes, but at a cost.
You have to log a ticket with a GM, they lock your account pending investigation, you mail them your cd key to their customer support email addy. It takes around 3/4 weeks sometimes, in my case 3 weeks. Once you bug them enough, they unlock your account and you log in. Once in the game you log a call with a GM, and a GM will ask you to ensure you have something like 72 slots open bag space. One button and wallah all your gear is transferred back to you. Only prob is, no gold and all enchants are gone. So yes, its still very costly.
If I was told they couldnt restore my gear, I dont think I would have continued playing to be honest. Just too much time and effort to get all that gear.

apparently there is no support for this type of situation with free-based email accounts ie: Hotmail. So basicly im F****ed! I cant even stop my WoW Account so its gonna carry on paying monthly untill i either get my password back somehow or close my bank account... is there anything i can do?

From the point of you paying, contact your bank and get them to stop the transaction.
