I got this sms, supposedly from MTN.

Have anyone else got this sms, and do you think it can be a scam?

If they phone you, and start asking for your banking details/personal details, tell them to get lost.

If you're on contract then they should have it with them. If you're on prepaid, then they don't need it.

If they offer you an upgrade, or contract, be very, very careful as the phone might be an older model they desperately want to get rid of at your expense...

Thanks, I wont give them any details. I even hate it to give my ID over the phone. When I want to change settings on my telkom account, they always ask security questions, including id number. I always think of how easy that someone can write down my id, and use it.

I've received an SMS like that before, and they did call me within a week. It was because i was due to upgrade within 3 months, they basically just confirmed my details (i.e. reading it to me and asking if it's correct) , primarily whether i still want my billing to go off on the 15th (they did not ask my ID or my CC details tho).

Also received it about a month ago, and got a call the week after. As diabolus said they just read out your details and ask you to confirm if its correct.
