I would like to share my honest views of Valve and Steam with everyone. I bought Halflife II two years ago at a retail store in South Africa, like I do with all the games I like and want to OWN.

Now let me explain something about South Africa. Our internet infrastructure is monopolized by Telkom, the only telephone network in the country. The result is very slow internet speeds, which we pay through our asses for. A typical 512mb line would cost you around $100 for rental per month. On top of that you have to buy a capped account. A 3Gb account would cost you another $50. On top of that the ONLY Power Utility company in our country,ESKOM, cannot supply enough electricity to satisfy the growing demand. We were told this will take until 2012 to be reftified. The result is what they call “load-shedding”, where they cut the power without warning on a VERY regular basis, which causes our internet connections to go down on a very regular basis.

This scenario makes it almost impossible to play my LEGAL COPY of Halflife II, that I bought LEGALLY in the retail store near me, which had NO f**king mention of any f**king STEAM bulls**t that requires an internet connection. In the two years I have OWNED a LEGAL copy of Halflife, I am yet to be able to play the game, which has cost me more than 10 times the price I have payed for the f**king game to start with (constant theft of STEAM of my bandwith).

So my view of Valve and Steam is this. I have taken your game CD’s (All 5 of them) and beaten them to pieces with my OWN LEGAL hammer, packaged it nicely back into the box you thieving mutherf**kers have given me, wrapped it all in nice giftwrap, and have just today mailed it to you, at MY OWN EXPENCE. So either the CEO of Valve, or the CEO of STEAM (maybe the same f**king prick), can decide which one of the two of you will have the honours of slowly inserting every fragment of the CD’s of the BULLS**T game that you sold me up your A**ES. But please, as a favour, do it SLOWLY so you can feel the pain you a**holes cause us, YOUR VALUED PAYING CUSTOMERS, with the crap you sold us. And then you can take the money you have STOLEN from me, and go have the crap surgically removed from your fat a**es.

Last, but not least, I would like to say this to Valve and STEAM executives. F**K YOU and all your bulls**t games, neither me, nor any of the gamers in South Africa will be supporting ANY GAME that is associated with STEAM. We work too f**king hard for our hard-earned cash in South Africa to waste it on TOTAL F**KING S**T like this.

Hope that clears what we in South Africa think of Valve and STEAM!!!!

P.S. I see the Orange Box is now on special :D

Dont think it was too good for him to talk for the whole of south africa.. i for one like steam :D now that IS have a local mirror thing..

Really? so can you visit steam/load the app on a local IS account? no need for international?

Yea I actually like steam, means I dont have to leave the house to get a game, I love that ;)

Nice post, but I can honestly say, Ive only purchased games through steam except for Half Life1 and CoD2... The others I usually trail and decide if I want to buy...

You need int for the master server login and friends server etc. But ALL the game downloading and updates are local now, thanks to IS. :D

Ah, ok but I cant find prepaid local IS at Webafrica or Axxess, will need to look into this more.

Is there anyway force Steam to use the local content server? I suppose I could block access to all but the main authentication server and the local IS server if I knew the IP address or name...

I find most of my downloads come from the Far East, pretty quick but international bandwidth is expensive for buying and download something big.

LMAO that is funny :D'

Personally I also used to hate Steam, but I have got used to it and as long as I am still playing CSS / HLF2 / TF2, I will continue to use it.

Official Half-Life 2 Box minimum specs:

* Processor: 1.2 GHz Processor
* OS: Windows, 2000/XP/Me/98
* Graphic card: DirectX 7 level graphics card
* Hard Drive: 4.5 GB
* Memory: 256 MB RAM
* Other: Internet Connection, DVD-ROM Drive

He should've read the back of the box. lol

I've never had problems with Steam, even downloaded OrangeBox since it was *cheaper than store price. I also bought Bioshock via steam.

*Bar my cap, but fortunately I pay for 3 gigs monthly anyways, so it didn't phase me that I used it up at the end of the month.

When Half life 2 came out I never had ADSL, only dial up. i must admit that it was frustrating not been able to play the game (I am not a jack-@ss, i never bought it cause i read the box...), but i could not blame STEAM or VALVE, they were only covering there own @ssz against piracy....

I blamed my parents at the time for not getting us ADSL :):):) hahahaha
