I have a multi million dollar idea

Who are you targeting the app at? If its that good and it's a game and you gf is really good at UX and you release it then a bigger game dev house could copy it and they have the network and bucks to advertise it in other in-game advertising.

It doesn't help you say it is so good rather your target market has to like and use use it. The big problem is with apps is people install and use it once and not again. If it's a game I would side load it on a couple of kids phones or give them tests phones and get them to give your feedback before you go decide to go live. A South African is not going to copy your idea. An overseas guy might so once its on the store there is no going back.

IMO With games I would think v1 has to be very good as you only have one chance. With other type apps v1 doesn't have to be perfect and you can incrementally improve it.

First things first, come back down to earth and regain your focus.

Good advice, my statement stands from this morning but I seemed to have gone a little off the rails. Pen and paper back in hand and brainstorming additional functionality.

Mentors are really hard to find

Thanks everyone for the feedback thus far, beta testing and testing the market in general is tough with this one.

This idea has never - ever been implemented, and it is good. Even a beta or closed test could slip to a competitor

Any idea can slip and will slip to a competitor make peace with that.

Get it developed, launch it to a select view in the target market, polish it off.

Launch it for mass consumption with a mybb sponsored article.

I dont really agree with the closed beta stuff, anyone remember how bad facebook was when it launched?
Didnt stop it from being massive because the idea was right.

I guess without knowing what I am doing its tough to comprehend my inability to allow a competitor to even sniff this.

In order to be successful I need a marketing plan that would grow my base to 100k+ in a day, preferably 1 million plus. Having that sort of traction in the market would allow for leverage where a competitor might try buy me out or associate with my rather than just implement and leave me in the dust.

Without my hook the app becomes literally worthless and the hook can be replicated in an hour.

The hook is fairly ingenious though

You are being paranoid, whatever the case may be that mindset does not help. Start small, don't get overly exited about it, work towards the goal, if anything downplay the idea/plan's significance to anyone that does not need to know it's potential.

The true value in any idea is seeing the gap and then seeing it through to completion and as has been mentioned the correct execution is vital, that will always be unique to yourself and no one can steal that from you.

Forget about the theft of your idea, if it's so lucrative and easy to bring to market(which I highly doubt on both counts) then carefully vet who you will share core info with but other than that the most valueable asset this idea/concept has is yourself, so chill you are not going anywhere and no ones cloning you anytime soon ;)

To be honest I'd say you are probably more afraid of failure that anything else, because that's one of the core/significant feelings that has to be dealt with and managed when building anything/starting up something new. It may fail but if you don't try you'll never know, just run with it and see where you end up, if someone steals it/beats you to the gate so be it but I'd hardly think that's going to be your biggest obstacle.

While I appreciate the psychological assessment you are not quite right. Yes I am petrified of failure, but I am a risk taker at heart. I have taken multiple risks with my work where I could have ended up jobless but I recently landed a job in an amazing company.

The one thing you don't do when you have a game changing idea is "just run with it and see what happens". You research your ass off in as short a time as possible, ask for advice wherever you can for help and give your idea its best chance. I believe both your your posts are based off the belief that this idea is a pipe dream and doomed for failure.

While it may be, I am going to treat it like it's the best idea in the world and if it fails, it'll fail with a crap load of work behind it

Drop me a pm if you require more funding as I'm always eager to invest into something game changing.

Thanks Purply, I don't need funding at the moment. I'll keep you in mind though. I am always looking for advice... and any solid advice that I end up going with will be compensated if this ever comes to fruition.

As per the title. I truly have a multi million dollar idea (app), its currently being developed although terrified the developer is going to run the idea. (there is a non disclosure agreement)

The base application will be done in about 2 weeks. I have around 150k to market it.

There are a lot of people who think they have great ideas - but I know this is. I have investigated and its a game changing niche in a saturated market. The five trusted and smart people I have confided in have agreed. One (Who is tight with money) has offered up 75k for a 15% share without me even trying to "sell" the idea.

Another said that its so good that as soon as it enters the market it may be replicated and dominated by a team of devs from a company with more money - or bought out if i get people onboard (making it worth buying rather than dominating)

I am terrified of messing this up.

What do I do?

Please flood this with advice I don't want to mess something up that is life altering and I am so inexperienced with implementation.

Excuse the terrible writing. I have been running on obsession and Adrenalin for a month

Don't be afraid of taking risks or failure. There is no success without risk, failure is just a stumbling block to success.
Put your head down and focus on making it work.

Get a wealthy investor to assist me and give me guidance? Would love that, do you know one? (Only ever watched first ep)

I think shuttleworth has a venture capital firm that also provides support & guidance.

Post your beta in the forum. Get some myBB members to provide feedback.

I'll look around. Thanks

Very good advice, trying to do just that.
