1st off I don't know if this is the right place or if its a PD type of question so if in needs to be move go for it.

What if you kept a secret. In doing so probably changed your personality, like in your whole family think your a <insert a whole lot of swearwords> but you dealt with it and lived your life as best you could without them.

If you are on your deathbed would you reveal the secret that could change how people judged you, but in the same time possibly break up marriages and maybe ruin some kids lives.

Would you:
A: Keep that secret, and let people go on with there lives thinking you where a dick so to speak.
B: Reveal it, and possible ruin lives, but change how people viewed you.

Oh and just for the record, I think I would go with option A, as I think it to be selfish to get gratification at the cost of other peoples lives, esp seeing that your is at an end.
 
This might just be me, but why keep other people's secrets, when they hate you [for having a false viewpoint of you]

If you let people take advantage of you , they will...
 
Tough one.. Being who I am I'd probably die with my family, friend etc. thinking I'm a dick. Think in some aspects this is the path I've already taken. Sometimes 1 persons suffering in a wierdly horrid way improves the lives of others.
Mind you, don't come to my deathbed to tell me what a a-hole I was and how your happy I'm dying. Atleast give me that respect.

But what if your the only one that know the secret. ie: its not about taking advantage would you still tell everyone?
 
I would keep the secret.

If the person is that important to me in the first place why would I change my view when I am about to die anyway?
 
If you have a secret and you disclose it, it's no longer a secret :p

If the secret is about someone sleeping around or something like that, I would tell it. That person should have thought about it when it did the deed... and obviously, I wouldn't wait till I am on my death bed, either.
 
let's give it a scenario.
like if you killed a john doe who had no family or friends and their body was never found?
or if you slept with somebody's wife, had a child, the father thought it was his and the mother died shortly thereafter?
i guess it depends on the context.
this could make an interesting storyline...
 
Wow just thinking about this now, I just realized how many secrets I do have.

For example I know about people that dont know they are adopted, know about people that's was abused and did not tell other people, hell even people that think thier fathers are the real fathers.

This is the reason us men should not watch chick flicks, this crap is best left to the other sex and out of mind :)
 
I did "A" when I was a kid.
2 cousins + me + friend.

I found out my 2 cousins + friend are all 3 my 1st cousins and the friend was the other 2 cousins brother from another mother...

LOL!

If the secret is about someone sleeping around you need to tell it. The person that was cheated on needs to know. Rather sort the crap out now than divorce ten years later when they find out and you get hated for not letting them know.
 
The truth will set you free.

I firmly believe that if a secret is that bad then it needs to come out so that people can deal with it.

One day you will have to deal with it anyway.

Crap I know one of those as well, not where I was the father but someone else.

Come to think of it, if I was ever on my death bed I think it best no one I know come close to me.... who knows what the drugs will make me say.

So you took the blame for someone else's mistake/crime without anyone knowing the truth so everyone thinks you are a a-hole. But if you tell then everyone will feel bad for having hated you your whole life, plus everyone will now hate the real culprit?
