Well, where to begin...

Situation is as follows , my wife is currently at home. She is on maternity leave, with our 3 week old newborn baby.

Yesterday , at about 2 in the afternoon I receive a call from her saying that someone had scaled our back wall and barb wire and tried to break into the outside shed.

At this point in time, I told her I will be there in the next few minutes, not letting her finish.

When I arrived at home, all was serene without a single thing out of place.

As the story transpires, "our friendly visitor" had gone to the main house, rang the doorbell and when the helper had answered he said that he was looking for some ficticious person.

Now armed with the knowledge that the main house was occupied, he opted to go around and scale the back wall over the barb wire !!

Problem for him is that our room window is right by this corner where he opted to scale the wall. My wife heard the chap land ,as she and the baby were busy taking a nap. She saw him passing by the room window and heard him fiddling with the latch at the shed.

Now still dressed in her PJ's and barefoot, she flew out the door and confronted "our friendly visitor". She apprehended him and with help from a one of the neighbours she escorted him to the police station, leaving baby in the care of the helper.

This is where all the fun now begins, seen as "our friendly visitor" was caught prior to getting into the shed and walking off with all our gardening equipment, he had nothing to answer for(according to our ever so helpful police). My wife said she felt embarassed, because it is like they just wanted to break out in laughter  at her suggestion for wanting to make some sort of case against "our friendly visitor". All that I can say is believe it !!

Today, I am scheduling a meeting with the station commander or who ever is in charge of that sorry excuse for a police station.

You jut gotta love it!!

Trespassing on private property? Doesn't that count for anything anymore? Glad the family didn't get hurt though

Police..... it's not just the same anymore....
They've gone from some of the most caring people in the world, so some of the most apathetic people in the world.

The station commander is going to be really sympathetic about your case bu he is just going to tell you the sorrow tale of SA's legal system and that there is NO realistic chance that a "minor" case of attempted robbery of garden equipment will get any priority. He might also offer a shallow apology about the staff making your wife feel embarrassed. But that is it.

It has all become communal, that's why if someone has your property in hand, it has merely been re-distributed for the greater good.

Thing is today is garden equipment, once these "friendly visitors" discover a soft target, they will always come back for more. First they clean out the out buildings and then move onto the rest of the house.

This is always how they go about their business.

iDOL : fortunately for you, the law doesn't see it that way yet. He was trespassing on private property, and I THINK there might be something such as an attempted break-in.

I would very definitely chew the station commander out though.

ToxicB, I am aware of that , need to go point out some of these items to him from my days in uni studying a bit of law.

It is also not their place to make judgment calls on if there is a case to be answered for or not.

Best tell your wife not to confront friendly visitors in the future, she could so easily get herself into a bad situation. Get a house alarm linked to a response compnay who could have reacted to her panic button. The man must have been pretty determined to scale a barbed wire fence. Please kick the station commissioner in the nuts for all our sakes and even go above his head if you have to, but make a noise about this.

@Ady I told her as much, she said she only realised it when I told her about it. No response companies close by, the closest sits about 20km's away, so by the time they get there it will be too late.

Best get some big man eating dogs then. :)

Hey, sorry about what happened.
Our station commander is a Director De Lange - Kempton Park.
Our church has been praying with her and for our local police

50% reduction in crime over the Christmas holiday, and if you are a "tv"person you will see how many big drug busts are now happening at JHB international -which is in Kempton.
If all else fails try prayer!!!! He made you and wants to protect you and prosper you.

Yep, but I was saving up the spare kennel, for exactly such an occurence.

That is why my wife only called me up after they dropped him off at the police station.

It will function as my holding cell, it is my intention to provide continued accomodation(albeit a bit confined) for all future "friendly visitors" for an extended period of 4 months or more. Where I will take him out every night , to practice some of the forbidden chinese torture techniques, which I have studied on a very informative website. I have been "dying" to test these new skills on a live subject, seen as that is the only justice out there.

I bet you he will be a changed person when he leaves my friendly spa, he will feel renewed and live on to become a better person. That is if he can still walk on the soles of his feet.

Glad the fam is alright. Could have gone much worse. :(

Spend some time this weekend checking your house security and upgrading where needed. You have an infant there, no cost is too high for their safety.

When youre "finished" asking questions about someone youre looking for, you dont go snooping around a house...

@vespax, indeed sir, biggest problem is my empty plot next door, needed to start building as soon as the rainy season is over. I am starting at the end of March. I have a monster electrified wall planned for it, including my cctv security setup(most of the equipment I have already bought for it).

Link? then we can all try and help society a bit. :)
