I need a better backup solution

They say unlimited, and they bring USB device to your house for you to back up to and then they'll upload..

Yeah - I asked about that when MyBB first ran with the story.

The biggest problem with relying on the cloud is that I need to be able to easily access, and possibly edit, the photos on short notice.

EDIT: I did a test upload time, on the company line @ 13.3 mbps.. 186 odd days for 20TB.

Your estimated upload speed is: 1.74 Mpbs
Size of File to be uploaded: CALCULATE

Estimated Time For Upload (detected) = 1428 days 10 hours 56.67 minutes

Once it's backedup, you'll surely be able to pull it down and edit? Why would you need to give notice?

Four years.. By then you'll hopefully have FTTH :)

I'm often given short notice - by clients.

But why would you need to give notice to pull it down? Maybe a dual layer type thing? Keep the more recent and most likely to be used stuff locally on a NAS, such as the link on carbonite, then the more obscure stuff on the Vox system?

Sure the setup cost of a server is costly but it's a once off expense? It can be done in portions by buying it in parts. No need to do it once off in one go. That would be the best solution I can think of. Easy access to all your files from one location and you can add more space as required.

R40k? Maybe I need to rethink backing everything up…

Converting all the raw files to JPG could potentially save a lot of space.

I see that Vox has a plan for R720 per annum

The small print says that that is for a softcap of 999gig extendable on request - maybe you should give them a call.

They do offer the once off load option as well.

Edit: Dang, it's pricey - 649 for 500 gig

By pull it down I mean edit it locally - not remove it permanently.

BTW - thanks for all the suggestions - it's going to take some time to wade through them all but it's appreciated nonetheless.

Eish, looking at the options available, I don't know if there is any affordable cloud solution for 20TB of data

Yeah - I'm going to start contacting clients and ask them how long they expect me to hang on to stuff for. I shoot 10-14 frames a second so there's often a lot of redundancy there I can eliminate.
