Getting the GPS is easy. Its the bloody map updates that are the problem....costs of those things are ridiculous.

My TomTom updates on my iPhone, are for free and can't remember paying for updates on my Old TomTom GPS as well.

I'd go for TomTom, cause I have one already. Garmin just as good. Price would be deciding factor for me.

TomTom normally cheaper in my experience, have found them to be friendlier too, but that said, haven't touched a Garmin since I was given my TT

Okay so how do I know if I am buying Satnav or GPS?

From what I have read I need satnav - the kind that says, 'turn left here, go ahead here etc.'

As far as I know, the TomTom XL series allows input of coordinates, which in my mind would make it a GPS receiver as opposed to a SatNav?

After reading the article it's clear that my GPS is actually a SatNav, since I can't
