I need a managed server *with* root access from time to time

I host some Drupal sites with an international service provider using the Aegir system, but as the sites have grown the provider has become too expensive. So I'm looking for a new hosting provider.

BUT I want to continue using Aegir. It's opensource so that's not a problem.
BUT it needs root access to be installed. And it seems root access is only available with self-managed servers.
BUT I don't want a self-managed server because I don't have the skills to manage it and keep it secure.

Can anyone recommend a provider who will offer a managed server but allow me root access to instal Aegir?

I cant think of a single provider that will give root access to a managed server (most will be shared so that would be a big no no)

You came either get a fully self managed server to which you have root access and then outsource the day time day management to a 3rd party or skill up ;-)
will be worth it in the long run!

Thanks OCP - I expected your answer but was hoping there might be a way to do it. Can you recommend any reliable 3rd parties I could approach?

Yea, I agree with OCP on this one – either delegate to someone who can, or brush up on some skillz. I know some people who are great with servers (and security thereof), but not with Drupal stuff (which may or may not be a trade-off).

Perhaps consider getting a self managed server or vps setup according to your spec and hardened, from there onwards you should be able to manage the server using a control panel along with updates etc

Try the guys below and see if they can assist

Thanks Jade - I'll reach out to them. Neo_ also gave me a local recommendation I will be contacting.
