I need a tripod

I've been looking at the vanguard 263AT with the ball head attachment. Must say it looks the business although it's a bit pricey.

The invitation still stands!

Thanks B. I haven't forgotten.

I'm just thinking that the size of the Benro is quite similar to that of the SLIK I picked up this weekend. It might just be a tad to bulky for my backpack.

While checking out your tripod at ODP the guy showed me the Benro MeFoto. Very nice tripod and has an extra feature where the leg and centre column detaches and combines to make a monopod. Something I use quite a bit with the sport photography.

It can also do some very awkward leg positions with all three legs able to go 180 degrees. If that make sense?

That does look like a nice kit.

No problems matey - as long as you have not forgotten

I honestly don't get the appeal of ball heads, I prefer the so-called videography tripods where you set each axis individually. I find I can get my composition much more accurate that way.

^^^This is actually a crap tripod. I played with it today but there is so much movement in the legs that I won't use it again with the 6D. I will keep it though for mounting the flash and for my video camera.

Just saw this post now. Can concur, the Takara is a POS.

Feedback at last.

I went ahead and bought the MeFoto A1340Q1 Kit.

In the end I had to get the balance between weight and sturdiness and a good friend of mine from ODP spent an hour showing me how great the MeFoto is. We had a Canon 1Dx and 400mm F2.8 on the tripod and it did not even twitch.

It came down to the Benro OgroteKoning bought and this. In the end I think the more compact size and monopod bonus sold it for me.

Ball head is smooth and rock solid. My heart actually skipped a beat when I accidentally turned the wrong knob while the 1Dx + 400mm was attached to it. I loosened the ball head and the lens and camera took a massive nose-dive. Tripod never even looked like falling over or buckling under the sudden pressure. Ball head held firm and quick release plate was still as tight as in the beginning. Phew!

It also weighs 1kg less than the SLIK I got for free and extends almost just as high.

Bonus is that it also doubles as a professional monopod as well.

Paid R2500 for it.

At last... :p

How does it compare in height with the Benro?

Benro is definitely a lot higher.

Specs say it goes up to 1.6m but when I have it fully extended and the camera is on top, I have to drop it down slightly to get a comfortable look through the viewfinder.

My guess is that you would have to bend your knees a bit with this one.

I need a tripod - or at least to borrow one. Just got back from the beach and the sea is riddled with bioluminescent something or other - plankton?
