I need an antivirus/spyware programme.

I had to re-install Windoze XP on my pc and last night i also installed PC Tools antivirus thingy and also Spyware Doctor or something similiar just to protect my pc. this morning my pc was sooooooooo slow and it took forever to do anything even freezing up. I deleted both programs and now my pc is working fine, howere it is open to a virus attack and everything else. i did use Eset Demo version before the crash but it expired. what must i do now.
thanks all.

ok thanks will look right now.

is it the Avast 4 Home edition one?

Spybot Search & Destroy + Avira Antivir + Sygate Firewall .......... covered :cool::D

Avast +1

Its already blocked like 5 DCom network exploits on the PPPoE link today.:eek: Seems to cover most of the angles pretty well and doesn't give a lot of false positives.

If you plan on doing anything data heavy...like a defrag/moving many gigs etc, then its significantly faster if one switches of resident protection for that time.

You'd still need some form of anti-spyware though...avast doesn't catch all of those. Something like Spybot S&D, ad-aware etc.

sounds like kark dude ...... only decent full products in there are Spybot and AdAware

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitman_Pro

* Eset NOD32 antivirus system (trial, expires in 30 days)
* Webroot Spy Sweeper (trial, expires in 7 days)
* PC tools Spyware doctor (demo, will not clean anything)
* Lavasoft AdAware SE (freeware)
* Safer Networking Spybot - Search & Destroy (freeware)
* TrendMicro CWShredder (freeware)
* JavaCool Software SpywareBlaster (freeware)
* McAfee VirusScan SuperDAT (virus signature definition updates, McAfee PrimeSupport license required for qualifying product)
* Ewido Micro Scanner (freeware)

why must you be so rude,go play in your tk,that iswhere you belong right:):D:rolleyes:

hehe, I'm not being rude :p I'm just stating it's silly to d/load all that ...... bandwidth intense for not all good products like ;)

The spyware doctor thing detects some stuff that the others (Avast, Spybot) miss...doesn't remove it though.

once i had installed the 2 programmes i was sure i needed to protect my pc from infections i deleted both now and found my pc running a lot faster then when i had them running. i did install avast for now and i see the little ball at the bottom of my screen runs when i go online however my windows protection program says its outdated anyway. i hate having to re-install windows everytime my pc crashes.

Avast will update the defs in the background and then the security center will OK it. The Program update of avast itself have to be done manually.

Kaspersky, R200 for three pcs.
That works out R67 pp if you can find two other mates looking for an anti-virus!
AVG is cool but eats bandwith, especially if you use google quite often.

You need a virus? Go surf for warez :p

/end{unhelpfulness}

Avira ftw :)
