I need an advice about IT

I don't completely agree with it ether, it's almost like he is giving the coder a bad wrap. But he still makes a valid point. You get guys who write code, and then you get the guys that jizz every time they see a new design pattern.

You get these guys that has 100's of classes in one app, each only with one or two lines of code. And they are all stacked on top of each other inheriting from each other. Doesn't make sense to me, but it's a pattern and easy to read/steal.

The only thing that I have against the "engineers" is that that you get placed in a box. Where is the creativity?

Creativity can be a very dangerous thing in the wrong hands especially when you are doing work and not screwing around in your own time. Many a time I've had to go un-fck the creative code of some "genius" who thought he was being very clever.

Consistency and "giving a crap" about the code you write will get you a long way.

EDIT: Unfortunately you only learn this after a few years but your code will be read by others a whole lot more than you think. These guys that write the code and forget about....painful.

Im sure many of the first year subjects are the same, except maby comp sci ones. do your degree, and find out what specific things the comp sci guys are learning and play around with it in your spare time (if youll have any). then find out from your varsity how you can switch over to comp sci in the 2nd year. IF you pass your first year then im sure theyll let you switch over,and (if you had time) youll have learnt some programming principles in the first year already. you might have to do an extra year to catch up on 1 or 2 subjects because of the first year, but hey: 1 year is nothing if you still have 35-40 years to work and enjoy it.
