I'm sitting at work, busy with an intensive edit - and literally falling asleep in the chair. Been up since 4am.

What can I take to keep me alert or at least awake for the rest of the day?

My personal trainer recommends sugar-free red bull (the one in the light blue can) for situations such as this. I can confirm that they help. Just make sure you're not sensitive to any of the ingredients, and don't overdo it. Caffeine is not particularly good for you

May be difficult now but what you want/need here is a sarmie: a peanut butter/banana/honey (but you CAN sub syrup in, honey's just better) sarmie ..on health bread would be better. An alternative: find somewhere/someone with a blender and get yourself a 2 egg, 1 banana vanilla icecream milkshake. Or have a tablespoon or two (MAX!) of Bioplus syrup.

But not just caffeine and sugar, you spike and crash on the sugar and get jittery on the caffeine.

A mega dose (about 1/4 teaspoon) of Vitamin C powder in a glas of water every few hours. Sometimes it's hard to find the powder, but most pharmacies should have some (just try to find the type that's buffered with Calcium as it's easier on your stomach). Lately I see even Clicks has their own version now.

This usually helps me stay awake and reasonably alert, without making me jittery. As a bonus, if you have the sniffles it usually stops that as well.

(Just keep in mind that drinking more Vit C powder than your body can handle will cause the excess to start running out the other end.)

Agree with the Vit C, as well as the coffee! ;)

On migration projects we normally work 48+ hours non-stop, and keep the percolator going strongly, with a Vit-C-1000 tablet every hour... works like a charm for me!

But I suppose everybody reacts differently to stuff, so it might not work for you...
