I need help selling my laptop

I have been using a laptop for about a year and a half now and im struggling to sell it. I want to build a new gaming desktop since I never take the laptop off my desk. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15 gaming 7000. I will link it to be exact. I am currently selling it on carbonite, OLX and facebook for 12k-13k and selling on bid or buy for 14k since they take a cut. I set the prices like that hoping people would make offers but I have been struggling. If anyone is interested or has any advice on where to sell a second hand laptop that would be great. Price recommendations are also appreciated! All the relevant information is in the links below

You can also post it for sale here. There is a for sale section.

Like anything, there is always someone that'll buy it at the right price. Whether or not the price is right for you is another story.

The sale section seays that I cant post because I don't have those privileges but im not sure how to get them, hence why i am posting here instead of there. If you know how that would be great
 
If something isn't selling and it is otherwise in perfect condition the only thing to do is bring the price down, 2nd laptops unfortunately have poor resale value relative to their retail price, sad but true.

Do you have any advice on how low i should drop the price? at the moment I am selling below 50% value new and i am a bit worried of going too low and just getting ripped off

How good is your ad, do you have all the specs listed, links to the current retail value, Amazon and reviews, lots of high res well lit pics that show the condition, accommodating collection options, cheap shipping etc?

Have you tried Facebook marketplace? Works really well.

Is the laptop still under warranty?

That's unfortunately how the cookie crumbles. The hardware space sort of moves pretty quickly. That makes something like a laptop that's 1.5 years old rather dated. To put it in perspective with yours, it's a 7th gen i7. 10th gen are coming out now. Popular ones these days are rolling with 9th gen.

I recommend looking around on carb / OLX / gumtree / Facebook / here to see what similarly spec'd laptops are going for, and that'll give you an idea of the market. Unfortunately what you paid for your laptop is not a clear indication of what it's worth now. I know when I bought my laptop, it was retailing for 40k (I didn't pay near that though). There is little chance of me getting 10 for it now.

I think it's because of your low post count. I didn't think of that when I replied the first time.
 
2nd hand laptops are hard to sell, even if they are run of the mill laptops, buying a 1.5 year old gaming laptop for 12-13k seems like quite a bit of a risk, even if it is below 50% of original retail
 
Ok so i read through all your advice and have updated the ad as well as to just tell people to make an offer and I will negotiate it since I have no idea what to sell for. Thank you for your help

Try facebook marketplace & gumtree, just exercise caution though.

Yea i havent tried gumtree but Ive been on marketplace and its been nothing but sketchy. carbonite has been the most promising so far

Gumtree is super sketchy - wouldn't take a chance there personally.

Be very careful doing the actual handover as well - there are so many scammers out there it's quite scary
 
Just had a look at your ad -

Eish, telling people you're desperate means that you're going to be lowballed like crazy

Personally I'd keep it at that price - what's a desktop setup going to give you that that doesn't?
 
I've sold and bought laptops/PC's on both Gumtree and Facebook marketplace, Honestly as long as you're careful you should get quite a few replies (especially gumtree). You will get a lot of people that low-ball you, you can try negotiate with them but most of them just want to resell it for profit.

Definitely take precautions when meeting with someone, Its also pretty easy to tell if someone is really interested as they usually ask a lot of questions and want a lot of photos. Sounds like a decent price for the laptop though so dont drop the price, but you can be "slightly negotiable."

I've not had issues with scamtree, the scammers & chancers you spot and ignore.

Always meet in a busy public place (never home), always cash.

I sold a centre & two front surround speakers to a guy and he then decided to take the two rears as well but he had a cash withdrawal limit but said he would do an eft as soon as he got home for the difference of about R1k, he looked like a decent enough laaitie & my gut said it's ok so I said fine and an hour later the eft was done as promised. Wish all people were like that, life would be better for it.
 
Gumtree isn't all doom and gloom but compared to Facebook it's like a crypt.
