I have had the puppy for about month and she gets hiccups all day long.

I tried to phone the vet but they always busy and say i must bring her in, now i dont feel like paying 200 bucks for the vets to tell me its normal or to buy their dog food which fights hiccups :p

So if it is not normal what can i do or will she grow out of it?

My little Jack did this for a while, most probably from gulping down everything you put in front of him puppy. Took to feeding him really small amounts at a time until he calmed down a bit.

As web said, feed smaller amounts that should do the trick but if it doesnt then there might be some other problem. If it continues and the pup cant sleep because of it that might cause problems. What kinda dog is she and what are you feeding her?

Yea problem is she gets it all day long, not after eating.

She will lying in my office and then get hiccups after having been in here for 2 hours.

Thanx for the links there waaib

Don't wait any longer and rather take her to the vet. What area are you in? If in 4ways, take her to the Fourways Veterinary Clinic, they are extremely good. All 5 of our four-legged monsters go there and we have never had a moments issues with them.

Take her to the vet - if this was happening shortly after meals then it would be normal, but all day long is not. And if you feel like getting your money's worth while at the vet, then have her checked up and maybe you can get the second round of vaccinations done at the same time and save on consultancy fees next time...

Best take your puppy to the vet; this is not normal.

I found this post by a vet - seems all ok:

Hiccups are presumed to be a vestigal reminder of the womb: the lungs need some type of strengthing exercise while in a watery environment. Hiccups are a means to exercise the diaphragm, the wide sheet of muscle that seperates the abdomen from the thorax, until the fetus is delivered into a dry environment and must rely on exchanging gases via the lungs.

Hiccups are normal.

What pisses me off is this:

What the Fcuck do vets know about Pet Nutrition? Its the manufacturers who grease their palms...

Vets study animal surgery and medicine, and not nutrition.

Nutritional studies are sponsored by the pet food Industry and specific companies themselves. Hardly unbiased...

*only available at vets*

Pedigree and all the rest of the supermarket brands- freely available to the public at shops and far cheaper too. WHY?

I think its because these expensive dog food places think we will buy their 300 rand dog food, i for one wont

I dont see the need to study dog food :), nor spend 300 bucks on it

Food is food and i highly doubt all these different dog foods actually make a difference.

Remember the one expensive company was killing dogs.

People buy it because the vets are like used car salesmen.
Salivating on their next commissions.

Bit like Doctors really, except doctors know a bit more about nutrition and get better fancy holidays dressed up as conventions and all manners of pens and geegaws for prescribing whatever the pimple faced, gel moussed med rep suggests.

Look i don't mind the fee but i don't to pay 200 bucks for the vet to feel her chest and declare all is good :)

That article in this thread settled it though, no need to spend money when its normal :)
