I've been doing a lot of road running lately, but the shoes I have are really not working for me. They are Aasics that my dad gave to me, but they are too big and I get blisters :(

I really don't know what to look for in a running shoe... I don't want to spend TOO much money, although I don't really have a budget in mind. I also don't really know the different brands so well.

I don't do races or anything yet, I just do morning or evening jogs for fitness.

The one thing that I will need is some kind of pronation support.

Any and all advice is much appreciated :)

You have to go to a specialised running store and fit the shoes there.

You can always go barefoot and then you don't have to worry about pronation etc... Running in shoes like Vibrams allow you to run how you would naturally.

Since I got my Vibrams I don't get any knee or leg pain anymore. My foot strike has also improved. I went from been a heel striker with running shoes to a mid-foot striker with Vibrams.

I would really recommend these "shoes"

Don't skimp when it comes to running shoes. You will regret it later with knee problems. Go to a specialist shop and get proper shoes fitted.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've googled them and they look really good! I will have a look at a pair after work

Those are knock-offs, rather get Asics.

You know what I mean

For sure.... Do you have any idea what is a good price range is that wouldn't classify as skimping? Also, can you please recommend a specialist shop to me :)

I got my feet tested.
The cheapest shoes I could find from the list that I could buy was R900.

+1. Your body is made to run barefoot.

I got a pair of Inov-8 F-Lite 195's and Vibram Fivefinger Bikila's. I have never enjoyed running more than I do now with these.

Does take some getting use to though but well worth the effort.

I just keep wishing that I tried these shoes out before spending thousands on orthotics and doctors.

R900... Eish.

Where did you get your feet tested alf?

At the Sports Science institute.

Most running shops can test you, I know that New Balance test you for free in their shops.

I paid R999 for a pair of Adidas.
But it's cheaper than going physio, pain killers and Dr's.

Also paid R1000 for a pair of Asics. Nothing special - more gym that running shoes but for the treadmill, but you generally get what you pay for.

Well I got Nike Free 3 V3, very cumfy and I just recently stated running again.........its like R900 at Nike Concept store

Thanks burn, I am very interested in the Vibram shoes. I particularly like the Komodo Sport: http://www.theoriginalminimalistshoes.co.za/products/komodo-sport.html

Ah okay, thanks Alf. I will give them a call.

1000 bucks seems to be the ball-park figure....

I have to agree since I got my Vibrams running have become a lot more enjoyable. The first week was tough on my feet though. When your feet are used to running barefoot though you will never regret going barefoot.

Run (completely) barefoot and save any money on shoes. But take it easy for the first month. After that it will be plain sailing. Just avoid the dog poo and glass. 99% of the people you see will never notice. I usually see about 4 of 5 people a week jogging barefoot, although I must admit, only in summer

I have an arch in my feet so would be interested in something like this.

Cheapest bricks and mortar place to buy Vibrams?
Due South is expensive comparing other goods like backpacks.

I will give it a try. I don't run on the road though, I generally run in this nearby sports ground that is open to the public. I think I will probably injure myself on stones and thorns :p

I need new running shoes too, I've got bunions on my feet and my current running shoes hurt my feet a little.
