Hi Guys
I am not sure if someone could provide me with some answers as to the internet and ADSL I have been using vodacom 3g the past 2 years and also got wifi internet at home now, but I only get speeds up to 18kbps on downloads on the wifi and vodacom is so expensive.

I am looking to get a do broadband or adsl line but I have no idea as to how it works, and telkom's website doesn't really help. I can see the pricing but do i still need to buy data bundles or will I be charged per time online or is it always online, please someone help me, I need internet that is fast yet affordable.

Thanks any advice welcome:)

I don't have a phone line at all the people installed a kind of antenna on my roof and a router.

1) Get a phone line installed by Telkom (Apply for a Closer 1 or Closer 2 package and you will not pay any installation costs)
2) Apply for ADSL on the phone line (make sure you specify 'self install' and you will pay no ADSL installation costs)
3) Decide which ISP you want your data from and how much or uncapped and order that.

ADSL is an always on connection and you will not be charged for the time you are online.
If there is a Telkom Direct store near you, go in and order directly from them (Voice Line & ADSL)

Get 384kb/s ADSl and sign up for uncapped & unshaped internet from SAOL or Cybersmart for about R500/month. Cancel the wifi & 3G access you have.

Ok sorry I am still learning what does uncapped and unshaped mean, Currently I pay around R289 per gig of data on vodacom and R350 p/m for wifi. I use about 10 GB of data a month. so it adds up! But I don't understand the uncapped / unshaped thing.

Uncapped = no limit on the amount of data you can download.
Basically unlimited.

Unshaped = No Port Shaping Restrictions are applied.
This is useful if you are doing a lot traffic outside of HTTP (Port 80) such as FTP, Torrents etc. etc.

Uncapped= Unlimited data, you don't get charged per gig of data. Pay R500 and use as much as you like/can in a month.
Unshaped= They do not restrict download speeds of certain traffic types like torrents etc like most isp's do. All traffic gets treated equally.

Awww Ok currently my wireless is uncapped but definitely shaped. Thank you so very much guys all this info will save me a lot of money and frustration!!

You guys rock!!
