I need your advice - Xbox 360 or PS3?

Hey guys, is there are a sure way of finding out which units are Jaspers? like manufactured after a certain date or spec improvements?

100% Guaranteed.

Ok guys, I've previously had two Xbox 360's (both RROD) and unfortunately I love gaming too much to just give up. I have the cash to buy a 360 Elite or a PS3 but they both have pro's and con's - the biggest being the ability to play backups on the 360. The second pro to the 360 is the expansions for GTA4 which is my favourite game.

I am naive to think that by spending R5000 on an elite 360 it will give me any less problems than my previous two? Or should I take the cash and buy a PS3?

it's simple buy a PS3 and you don't have to worry on any catch ups or problems.
I have bee using mine for 8months now and it's they best buy that I have done since this entire year so far. and no overheating problems like I know you get with the xbox PSU units. program runs fluid no matter how many times you install games.. and it's a way better design than xbox... PS3 FTW all I can say

I own a 360. I can't say why I prefer it to the PS3, but I know I will never buy a Playstation again. For me Gears of War is much better than Killzone. But that is preference, and that is why I will never buy a PS3 again. The only thing that I need from my Xbox is local pricing. ie: XBL in South Africa, which is a big possibility now that SA is going to have a 100 fold bandwidth increase in the coming 2 years. Regardless, online play on the Xbox is still miles ahead of PSN.

The price of the PS3 is not justified IMO, except for the BR drive, which is of no use to me.

I noticed that you would like to play backed up games. I guess then you made up your own mind. Xbox 360.

Best response and advice was from DArkWater. Also with the new Jasper units (xbox 360) you can apply many tweaks eg adding a 320 gig harddrive etc. Just google.

Tip: After shopping around for a price take down the company's phone number. Than goto a GAME store. Find the same product even if it is more expensive. Than tell the sales guy you found the product cheaper elsewhere while not on special and give him the phone number and name of the shop. They will match the price/better it and u get the 1 year no questions asked guarantee. I save a ton of money on electronics this way.

I have both the ps3 and xbox360, and if you claim that the xbox360 is cheaper and the price of a ps3 can't be justified, you're smoking some heavy stuff... The elite costs more and has not got nearly as much toys as the ps3, and if you buy an arcade for R2500, sure it's cheaper, but you get NOTHING with it...

I can't justify paying to play online when it can be free, DS3 controllers for R550 new with no having to buy batteries or playncharge kits for it, you can upgrade the ps3 hdd easily and much more cheaply then the xbox, and you can buy games for cheap 2nd hand with no worries because blurays are terribly hard to scratch...

I'm sorry but the ps3 is the most complete package, has better exclusives (sure xbox's are good but they don't appeal to me as much)...

If all you're interested in is cheap pirated games, go ahead and buy the xbox, you won't get much love from the local xbox community for it though ;) ps3 is a much better investment (who's complaining, you buying it at under cost unlike the xbox360 which is more prone to failure)

And incentive for all xbox 360 fanboys to buy a ps3 is this... They make a loss on each console sold, so the more ps3's you buy, the faster Sony will become bankrupt and your system will "win" think about it ;)

I have had both systems. And both have great games. Really I didn't notice any difference in graphics between the systems. Sure GOW2 looked amazing on the xbox but MGS4 also looked amazing. Personally I thought that the xbox felt a little cheap and crap quality. When I used my ps3 it really felt like it was worth the money. The xbox felt like a glorified pc. That is all obviously very subjective. PSN store had a much nicer interface for me and its way easier buying stuff on ps3 than xbox. Xbox online however is still a bit better than ps3. I had my xbox for 2 hours and I was in a full game with lots of SA players having a good time. PS3 requires a bit more effort and there are not as many players as xbox but its still good. If I was to buy one again it would be PS3. The experience was just more streamlined for me and I enjoy ps3 exclusives like uncharted, Ratchet and clank etc more than GOW, L4d etc. Btw Halo 3 is ****. Most overrated game ever. GOW kicks halo's ass any day. Playing halo is just sad after you have played GOW (xbox) or resistance (ps3). IMO ps3 ftw. PS3 has wireless which helps a lot if you have wifi at home. I also like the fact that the ps3 is super quiet because I used to keep my ps3 on during the night when downloading stuff and it didn't bother me at all but my xbox did.
Although I must say that if you want only a game console with no multimedia then you should still consider xbox.

No it's perfectly true. You actually get crazy people who do weird things like buy consoles to play games, and the Xbox gives you an excellent console with many good games at a much lower price.

The elite costs more and has not got nearly as much toys as the ps3, and if you buy an arcade for R2500, sure it's cheaper, but you get NOTHING with it...
You get a game console and controller. You don't actually need anything else. If someone is looking for a game console to play games, and wants the best value for money, then there is no question the 360 is the right choice.

I Elite however as far as I'm concerned is no longer a worthwhile purchase. The PS3 does make better sense at that price.

with no having to buy batteries or playncharge kits for it
Rechargeable batteries are cheap and usable in a wide array of devices.

you can upgrade the ps3 hdd easily and much more cheaply then the xbox
Definitely in the PS3's favour. Microsoft have no excuse for the exorbitant prices they charge for hard drives and should be prosecuted if they deny access to Live because someone upgraded their drive themselves.

and you can buy games for cheap 2nd hand with no worries
Not really an issue with second hand games on the Xbox either.

has better exclusives
They'll both have a few decent exclusives. But the time to buy the PS3 will be when there is a good library of exclusives available on the used market.

Sorry, I guess that I should have stated more clearly that it is a matter of preferance. Also please remember that not all Xbox owners play pirated games. On the whole the PS3 is a better package, no doubt about it. It has wireless, BR, it looks better, bigger hard drive, free online play, etc.

For me it really comes down to 2 things. Gears of War and a superiour online experience.

Some people like GT, MGS and Killzone... so they buy a PS3. I like Gears of War, Forza and PGR... so I buy an Xbox. Like I said, "preferance".

But if you want an amazing piece of equipment that is classified as a "super computer" with the ability to send a man to the moon and then brag about that on the internet, by all means, buy a PS3. At the end of the day the games work the same on both consoles.

Oh, one more thing. The Xbox controller, for me, is much more comfortable over an extended time of gaming. (READ: PREFERANCE)

/Edit:

When you read my opinion and think "yeah whatever"... just remember that I owned a PS3, got an Xbox for Gears of War, and then sold my PS3 after I experienced what the Xbox has to offer. Sometimes its not all about the "super computer" hardware. Think about that.

My PS3 arrived last week. NEXT GEN HD GAMING AT ITS FINEST RA RA RA.

I haven't bothered plugging it in yet because it doesn't come with an HD cable.
