So yesterday I ended up at the Sony store in Eastgate because I am trying to decide whether to get a blu ray player or a PS3 slim. And one of the guys there showed me a demo of HD vs SD while debating the fil size limitation thing on the PS3 file format.

Two 1080p TVs, one connected to an HD capable handy cam, the one cam was set to SD & the other HD, the difference was like day & night! I have never seen the difference that pronounced! I was impressed, TVs were 46'' bravias.

Disclaimer: I own 32" 720p TVs with HD PVR.
 
Yes, it is impressive - won't buy a non 1080p component again - and preferably 1080/60p (my video camera can do this).

Unfortunately my HD Ready Sony Plasma will still last for many years !
 
Yep, many ex_sperts on this forum argued the benefit and reality against their best will.
 
I've got a 27" full HD Samsung screen and the difference between SD (like an avi ripped from a dvd) and HD is massive. ...but tbh, I don't really notice much (if any) difference between HD and full HD (BR rips played via PS3).

@ R13... I say get a PS3 - it's a BluRay player and SO MUCH MORE

Well i saw 720p tv and i wasn't impressed at all.

Probably but I think it also depends on how far away you're positioned from the TV.
...but I think the best solution is for me to acquire a 50" Full HD monster to test your theory :p
 
We kind of went backwards with the resolution reduction there. But, what really makes me wow is the effect of the interpolation techniques they use on 120 Hz tv's. Looks so smooth. Movie makers should be shot for still sticking to 25 fps.
 
unless you have a blu Ray player coupled to your full HD (1080px), full HD wont do much for you. Even if you own a DVD player that does HDMI upscaling, The image will probably never utilize the full 1080px as shown. Then you also have manufacturing issues, signal loss, length of couple etc etc that would affect quality and noise factors that will creep to the fore. If you planning on getting a TV and set on getting DSTV HD, then buy a HD Ready (720) plasma, cause all HD broadcasting channels use the 720p HDTV ratio. However, if you have content thats recorded at resolution 1920x1080, then your HD ready might have issues displaying the content as recorded and thats when you would want to buy a Full HDTV. But considering most DVD players have the option of setting the resolution size to either 4:3/16:9 or 720i/p or 1080i/p. so yeah... for now HD ready is all you really going to get out of your full HD until you either buy a Bluray player and the disks to go with it...

You mean 24fps.
On the subject, HD movies watched in 24p (24Hz) looks amazing. Hard to describe what makes it different, but it's just so much better looking than at 60Hz.
 
Yea USB is limited to 4GB because I think they can only read FAT32 which only supports file sizes up to 4gig
 
You do realise that Store Salesman have been known to take liberties with the samples that they show to impress customers? Just saying. Were these live video samples he was showing you or pre-filmed?
