When the exchanges in my area were upgraded from 4mb to 10mb, both my work and home ADSL lines were automatically upgraded. I downgraded both to 4mb because I am too far from the exchange and there were syncing issues and terrible noise ratios. Then the 4mb price dropped, so score. Still on 4 mb with new price. But last week I notice suddenly that my web pages are timing out and my mail can't send or receive properly.... Investigate what's up, lo and behold, Telkom has bumped the line speeds up again and charging the higher price 10mb fee. This is both at my work & home premises. Bastids! How can they just up the connection and charge more without my permission?

Call 10210 (from your landline) and drill your way through the many options to downgrading. When downgrading to 4Mbps request a 25% discount (if necessary politely bluff cancellation if you are brave).

OP you didn't take out a simple package with them ? Maybe the tying you down.

Politely contact them and raise your concern. Do you have any proof example ticket/reference/ number and name of the call centre agent you spoke with

Been on 4mb for 4 years, was auto upgraded last year, then I downgraded back to 4mb within days of noticing (cant play online with a shyte connection). Never gave permission for anything else, I dont use Telkom for my ISP, only ADSL line rental. Was 4mb till about a week ago....

Have you followed up yet? Outcome?

Angaas.... cant be explained...

Still being passed around on the help line.... 22 minutes now ... sigh

YOH: 45 minutes later.... When I downgraded the last time from 6mb to 4mb, the line profile was changed, but not the details for the account, thus I have been paying for the up to 10mb price all the time. Their upgrades recently to their network control now does an auto check on what your account is and what you can sync at. It now will automatically up your sync on the connection to the most stable figure you can achieve. This part is new, and why I now can see a 6mb sync. I honestly never check my damn telkom statement, so have wasted some money between then and now paying for the faster connection.

I have ultimately decided to leave the line on 6mb, because to my surprise the noise ratio's are quite good and I can play online no problem with it. Plus I have my capped account which will use the full speed.
