I am looking for some help to help me recover from moderate depression. I have been blocking out friends, family i just want to be alone. Been staying indoors 24/7 and have no energy for anything. Been taking a energy tablet during the week to get some work done , I work from home. Attached below is what i got from the Internet but no treatment offered:

Moderate depression can cause difficulties with job or with everyday chores. More of the symptoms are present than are found in the mild depression form and they are usually more obvious.

In a moderate episode of depression, the central features are low mood, lack of enjoyment, negative thinking and reduced energy, all of which lead to decreased social and occupational functioning.

Often we start to worry about things unnecessarily such as performance at work, even if we are managing to maintain our previous standards, or more sensitive and susceptible to feeling hurt or offended within personal relationships

Well, can you think of any cause?

How much contact with people do you have from work? If little, this may be the cause.

Something that can boost your mood short-term is getting out of the house for a bit of exercise, such as bundling up and taking a brisk walk. Even though you think you have no energy, once you get moving it will feel better automatically and you will feel the benefits for some while afterwards.

Exit the house - this works for me with my bipolar. Yesterday was a nightmare - todays its better but hey this is life, could be worse.

Blocking out friends and family and sitting on your own all the time will fuel your depression.

Get out dude. As much of a mission as going out may seem it will help. If you are having suicidal thoughts go see your GP and get something to help you.

Is there a reason you are shutting yourself down to the rest of the world?

Agreed dude. Ever since I joined bco band I feel good about myself.

you first have to diagnose what is causing the depression before you can move past it. tablets only help so much.

find the cause, then you need to find a way to either move past it or learn to live with it without it becoming a daily burden. its easier said than done i know, but unless you do this you will not easily come out of your depression.
getting out of the house no matter how difficult is a very good idea, it will allow for fresh air, force you to socialise with the outside world and so forth. quite often enough time outside will allow you to bump into someone or draw your attention to something that will suddenly give your life more meaning or even just give you a fresh perspective you didnt have before.

and allways remember this : "no matter how bad things are for you, there are people in this world born with some fatal disease knowing from the day they are born that they wont make age 15 or 30, some are born blind, deaf and disabled. whatever you are going through there are others that go through 100 times worse on a daily basis and unlike you, there is no cure for them."

in the end it boils down to this : "pull your ****ing finger out your Ass and find a way to get on with your life."

You not gonna like what I'm gonna tell you, but you're gonna have to do it. See a psychologist. They will diagnose you properly. Reading things on the internet is possibly the worst thing you can do because you can adopt symptoms and may incorrectly diagnose yourself, and this will make it difficult for the psychologist to fix you. My sisters boyfriend suffers from depression, and since seeing the head doctor, he's stopped his addiction with weed, and is a more social, happy person!

I have had a couple dances with depression, and it's a really crap place to be, but lately, when I feel a depressive spell coming, I force myself to get out and socialize, flirt with girls and have a few beers at comedy evening. Also, you might be feeling you are lonely because you don't really have a partner, and there seems to be a link between depression and a lack/lose of reproductive ability [1]

My best suggestion is to go out with friends, and also talk to them about your mood. recently, I was really feeling shyte, and ended up driving to a mates house, and well, cried it out, telling him whats happening to me and such. It helps, and more often then not, your friends are more than willing to help you.

Thanks for all the positve advice so far ,please keep them coming I will def be pushing myself & get out. I realised something was mishap when i just bursted out crying after listining a radio interview about world cup coming to a end and what ppl can do to keep the Gees. Also been disapointed by my teams i have been supporting from SA, Argentina & African teams.

Get professional advice. Depressive episodes can be brought about for a number of reasons and can also be the result of a chemical imbalance. It's not something you want to let spiral out of control and it's something that should be diagnosed before advice and a prognosis can be provided...

Do you think you need to be medicated in order to get out of this depression?

If you realize you're mildly depressed you're still in a good position. Go out, dance, drink(a little 1 or 2 drinks), treat a lady and let it lead to those natural happy hormones blasting your brain clear as a sunny day

Get out at lunch time, grab a bite somewhere and you should enjoy the fresh air. Do you stay alone ? Where's the family ? Give your best friends a call or sms and see if they won't mind a get-together. Make a braai. Try to avoid your TV or PC and get out. Go to church or pray.

That requires that he would have to have completed a masters in psych, as a bare minimum to even contemplate answering this. There is no way he could answer this for himself...

Do any of you guys ever get into a funk where you think... "WTF is the point of me? What am I actually doing here?" This has been a trail of thought I have been having more often, and its getting harder to shake.

google: seasonal affective disorder

With depression you find it hard to get yourself out of the rut.

Do not underestimate the power of sunshine ...

I feel like that lately. I feel like I'm a loser with no future. I struggle to handle all the pressure in my life. Sometimes I feel like dying.
