Type in google search (dstv hd decoder) and its the first one.To be honest im not sure if they have new HD decoders but anyway. So my question is do any of you suffer from software problems?Ours sometimes freezes and you can't change the channel for like a minute plus will just randomly reboot(sucks during a game!)

It has nothing to do with the version of HDPVR.. and everything to do with the crap software MC have developed for it, and every version of the HDPVR suffers from the problems.

Weird, but my one they swapped out in November doesn't randomly reboot or freeze like my old one did. I think it's actually hardware related, it seems the PVR isn't getting enough juice.

My 2P has, touch wood, been faultless so far. I know it will invariably change... probably at the start of a long weekend.

I have to say I had my HD PVR 2P installed yesterday and I noticed that the menu is crap, text is all blocky, looks so crappy.

And when you view a channel, you only get the first 2 shows come up, the 3rd one pops up like 3 seconds later.

Poor!

I can live with the delay on the upcoming shows - once that 3 seconds or so have passed, you can scroll ahead 24 hours. As for the blocky menus... how is yours connected to your television? Mine's much, much more crisp that the old SD ever was; connected via HDMI & running at 720p.

Try changing the resolution to match your TV i.e. 4xx vs 576 vs 720 (somewhere in the settings, don't remember), think it improves a bit. Also do a full bouquet scan, my third item started showing "faster" after that although sometimes it's still s**t slow and sometimes never appears at all. And then once in a while the TV guide stops working. Full scan again ...

Sounds like the PSU issue with the first Pace decoders.
There is a serial number on the decoder starting with Pxxxxxxx etc. If yours is below 80000 apparently MC will swap it for free.

What makes/models of Multichoice HDPVR are available at the moment? Am I correct in saying it's 3? Which one is the best, or do they all have similar problems and it's just luck of the draw when you get one?

There are 3 but kind of 4...
The early Pace 4 tuner (black) HDPVRs are the ones giving the issues, they have had power supply problems which result in a HDD error. Multichoice has replaced these with errors at no cost
The later Pace 4 tuners seem to be ok (I haven't used one of these)
UEC 4 tuner (silver) HDPVR, much quicker & more stable then original Pace. Still using one of these with no real issues
Pace 2 tuner (black), these are the smaller ones that came out in May last year. These work really well & are the only model still being manufactured

So I would definitely recommend the Pace 2 tuner

Thanks Smurfatefrog, and the Pace 2 tuner can be used on a twin LNB set up with a multi-switch?

Well my DM8000 HD DVD PVR is purring along beautifully ...

Watched House series 4 episode recording from Universal channel whilst recording Top Gear and Boardwalk Empire. Then burnt Boardwalk Empire in the background to DVD (some stuff you just have to burn to DVD) while watching the Top Gear Time shift.

Quiet evening by comparison.

Wow, pretty awesome and only 999 EUR :D

My hdpvr, 1st model, gave hard drive issues, had it replaced. The new one works perfect except like once a month it looses its extra view settings and then I must put the settings in again. Do I need to have it swapped out? Or is that something I have to live with.

Its a software bug, you can request patch software to be sent to your decoder to stop that happening
email [email protected] with your decoder model & smartcard number & they'll send it to your PVR
