I think lightning hit my PC

Hi there.

I think lightning has just hit my PC of 10days old.

I was outside when the single shot hit. I could even here it through our electric fence. I quickly finished my work outside and came in. I noticed that my PC is of and the kids' one is fine. I tried to switch it on, but no luck.
I noticed that the UPS is not on and tried without the UPS. My machine booted 100% except for the fact that the ethernet does not seem to work. I have no connection to my router. I have tried different cables, another port on my router, no luck.
I then went to device manager and noticed that there's no network adapter. Did a quick scan for new devices and still nothing.

I have an ASUS P7P55-M motherboard.
I have open the lid to check if I can see any burned parts, but nothing.
I'm thinking of buying a network adaptor now or what do you suggest?
As I know myself, I will most likely buy a new board, but don't have the money now.

Also, why did my off-line UPS not protect my machine? Why is the router and our other wired PC OK and not mý brand new machine? Life is not fair.
Everything else seems OK.

Exactly the same thing happened to my friend. He's using an adapter now.

Jip, happened to my new pc also couple of months back. Just popped in a new network adapter. Good luck

Offline UPS? They provide only the most basic protection; mostly only for giving yourself those precious few minutes to back up your work. Unless you actually meant ONLINE UPS? They're very expensive, but should provide complete isolation.
