Hi Guys,

So not really up to scratch with what is the best under the hood.

For me its about the way it runs and the exterior aesthetics :p

So I am looking at getting a PC that is small, like a cube and under the hood its a beast.
So when I say beast, I do not mean like a crazy R60 000 computer. Just something that looks nice, can smoothly run high end games, and graphic intensive software. it should just be fast really.

So Does anyone know where in SA I can talk to professionals about customizing such a PC?

You're not going to need a 22-core CPU, and depending what resolution you plan on gaming at, a GTX 1080.

Most top systems run on an i7 6700k, and you'll get quite far with a GTX 1070.

Of course, people are going to ask a lot of questions, so I'll get started:

1. What games do you plan on playing?
2. What's your preferred screen resolution?
3. What applications do you plan on running?
4. What's your budget?
5. Prebuilt or are you up to building it yourself? Most regulars in the PC section,myself included, build our own PC's, so I'm sure we'll be happy to advise.

Hey man,

1.Well I am not too hectic on gaming. every now and then I would buy a game if it seems cool. at this stage according to my steam I own: Skyrim, HL2, Sims 4. But I had a look at graphics of a game like Final Fantasy 15 and the remake of 7 coming in the next year or so. so I would like to be able to play that? maybe even the next elder scrolls game.

2. screen resolution? geez I dont know man. this laptop is 1366 X 768. like I dont know what 1080p and 4k is but if I can have 4K that would be great.

3. Applications like adobe premier, in design, illustrator, photoshop ect.

4. R10k - R15k

5. I can not do anything electronic so I would be looking at getting advice about which components would be needed for a case and what will fit I suppose. I want a PC that is tiny but powerful.not a huuuge tower next to me. something clean. like apple style.
So not sure if people at PC shops could help or what you guys can suggest.

10-15k won't get you anywhere close to 4K gaming performance.

A 1080 alone is 11k+

Your budget will probably allow you to get a 6600k system with a 1070, screen excluded

A lot depends on the resolution and frames per second you want for your games.

CPU:

If it's just going to be a gaming pc then I5 6600 (or 6600k if you ever plan on overclocking) is more than enough CPU power. Look at an aftermarket CPU cooler(either fan based or watercooling depending on whether you want to overclock or how much cash you have to blow).

Graphics card:

for 1080p at 60 frames per second nvidia's GTX 1060 will handle this no problem

1440p at 60 frames per second GTX 1070.

2 monitors at 1440p 120 Frames per second GTX 1080

Motherboard:

If you want small form factor you will be looking at mini itx or micro atx size motherboards, and cases that fit these sizes

RAM:

16GB is fine for me

Ponder should be able to give you better info/help and there is a PC build thread here on MYBB as well

Wouldn't need a 700W PSU to power that - 550W max. So could save a few coins there.

Also, if you're not to clued up on PC's, avoid K-chips and Z-boards. Other variants are also cheaper.

With Wootware I get under R20 000 for all parts plus screen. All you'd need is a mouse and keyboard.

Another option is to buy second hand from Carbonite. Great market place

With that budget you don't get to do both. Pick a cheapish box boring with decent airflow & call it a day.

The budget is sufficient for a decent powered but boring looking traditional PC. If you add fancy stuff the performance will take a hit.

When it comes to good bang per buck on PCs tiny = bad.
 
i5 6500
16 GB RAM (you can go with 8GB but if you go 8GB go with a single stick so that you can add another one; the mini-ITX boards mostly have only 2 slots)
mini-ITX motherboard
GTX 1060
650W fully modular PSU (a fully modular PSU would be easier to build with if you go with a ITX case, and it looks cleaner - since you don't have a lot of space to hide cables) You don't need 650W but this one is cheap (and fully modular:p)

I like shoe box shaped mini-ITX cases and Wootware doesn't seem to stock them, only bigger rectangle boxes (looks like a square box that went through a massive growth spurt:sick:). You can skip the mini-ITX PC and replace the motherboard (this one only costs R1 600) with a ATX/micro ATX board and get a Phanteks Eclips 400s Silent Edition for R1 199. If you can get a nice, decently priced, shoe box shaped ITX case I would stay with the small build. :)

I just used Wootware for prices. You can probably get better prices if you shop around. I would also recommend looking on the 2nd hand market, seeing as you probably don't have a monitor, just to make sure you get the best out of the 15k max budget.

Just came to say that if you're only the occasional gamer rather get an i5 CPU and get a 1060 6GB.

Since you work with many Adobe products a nice IPS screen is a much better place to spend that cash.
