If people knew what the cost (the ACTUAL cost) was gonna be duirng that public participation process, I am convinced they would not have supported the idea. It's oh-so-easy having public participation and then upping the cost later
It is not amazing the speed with which certain things can be done in this country? Others, that actually benefit the citizens, take aaaaaaaaaaages to do!

Ok this "ad" has nothing to do with the toll booth but I wanted to show you how they get away with saying they "advertized it in all the papers".
the above ad is placed at the back of the newspaper under the classified section under the heading Public Notices. Now how many people read the classifieds and how many people would comment if these ads were placed on the front page or at least inside the main newspapers?
Try and fight the powers that be by saying there was no public participation in anything that happens in this country and all they will say is "well if you read the paper you would have seen the advert" and they would be right. If the advert was stuck at the back under the Hatch,Match and Despatch section is neither here nor there because it was in a paper.

They said it was going to be 50c/km at the public participation thing (as reported in the paper) and with it being 49c/km with the e-tag it still seems inline with that. I just can't find anything related to this public participation process around the time it actually happened.

So ... what was the outcome of the process? If it was a unanimous acceptance and support of the idea, then I PROMISE YOU that SANRAL would have mentioned it to us in this past week or two when the matter became a major issue.

Blu, that has been my point all the time. how many times has a Public Participation process been done with the outcome being that the idea,whatever it was, was scrapped? Is it not strange that everything gets implemented and they say that the public were involved and it seems everyone or at least the majority agreed to it?
exactly, you hit a pedestrian and you in the mess but they were walking in the road. we are not allowed to ride on the pavement.

In my ideal world, the govt should somehow ensure everyone in SA has a cellphone and then conduct quick polls, you know, press 1 if you agree and press 2 if you disagree... totally oversimplified and loaded with the possibility of fraud, I know, but that it is quick and immediate interaction with your citizens when you want to make a decision !
With RICA in place you'd probably have a couple of gentlemen in trechcoats rock up on your doorstep informing you that since you had answered incorrectly in the latest poll, they now have the unfortunate task of educating you on how to give a correct answer in future.
