President Jacob Zuma’s adviser Zizi Kodwa has vowed to sue two SAPS officers for defamation of character after they arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving.

“I have instructed my attorney to take legal action for the damage done to my integrity,” he said on Friday night. The president’s adviser was arrested in Rosebank in the early hours of on Friday morning. Blood samples were drawn and then he was locked in the cells at Rosebank police station. Police remained coy on details of the arrest, but an angry Kodwa told the Pretoria News he had been the victim of an unlawful arrest. “My dear, I have not been drinking for the past four years. Yesterday I was sober. In my blood there was no alcohol. The claim of drunk driving – I deny it.” Kodwa said he’d been driving away from a party with four of his friends when he was pulled over by two police officers at an intersection near the Rosebank police station. “I asked why I had been pulled over,” said Kodwa. “The two officers then told me that people who drove in the vicinity at that time of the morning were always under the influence of alcohol.”Kodwa said the officers instructed him to follow them to Rosebank police station in his car. “When we arrived there I was told a blood test was needed, however no testing equipment was available. I was then driven to an alternative testing centre in downtown Joburg, but a doctor was not present to perform the test,” he said. Eventually Kodwa was taken to the Hillbrow community clinic, where his blood was drawn and later returned to the Rosebank police station where he was being held. He claims he was verbally abused by the police. “It took almost two hours for my blood to be drawn,” a furious Kodwa said. He said he was angry that the police never read him his rights and were unable to provide concrete evidence that he was drunk. “I wasn’t even speeding. I think I was doing 20km/h at that time. My arrest was unlawful and malicious by two officers who are just a rogue element in the SAPS.”

Kodwa also felt that he was victimised because he would not give the police a bribe. Police spokeswoman Colonel Katlego Mogale confirmed Kodwa’s arrest but refused to give details. “It’s immaterial at this stage to say whether he was with his girlfriend or anybody else for that matter. The important thing is that we followed the necessary procedures and made an arrest.” Kodwa is out on R1 000 bail. He is due to appeal. His arrest comes a month before he is set to tie the knot with his model fiancé Zama Ngubane in Durban. - Saturday Star

By that they probably mean a cop drives the car with him? Meh,hopefully the law will hit him if he is guilty.
 
Someone suspected of drunk driving must follow the cops in their car to the police station? That charge won't hold up in court.
 
this has happened to me before, i was completely sober. Nice to see it happening to the "bigwigs" so they can see the issue.

I would take Kodwa's side, as i have had this ***** happen to me about 4 times while being sober, telling me they don't have equipment i have to go to Diepsloot/soweto/insert dodgy area here, and they refuse to breathalyze you.

On the positive, happened to my friend, his dad is a big shot lawyer. Im sure the public would be happy to know half a million of tax money had to be paid out for wrongful arrest, and this apparently happens very regularly.

He is just lucky he wasn't a white 20 year old... they tend to kill those, if they don't pay them.

I would think the bigger story is the fact the police stations are so poorly manned...

I remember one/two stories in the news about young white guys "hanging themselves" in their cells after being allegedly pulled over for drinking and driving. I think that is what he was referring to. I also know of one case where officers tried to pour liquid into a guys throat after they had arrested him.
