Hi Guys

Just wanted your opinion about the new i20 Remix for R169 900. Is it worth the price or can you get something better and maybe even cheaper. I currently drive an Audi A3 '99 model, but looking for something lite on juice. was interested in the Getz, but not my cup of tea. too much VW's and Polos on the road. so to put it mildly, looking for something thats good on fuel, 4 door, stylish looking, bit of oomph and with a decent price.

what do you think of the Remix pro's and cons and is there something better new or secondhand instead.

I own an i20 1.6 and I would make the decision to buy it again in a heart beat.

But I also recently had a look at the Kia Rio. Would take that over the i20 any day if only they had the 1.6 engine, the power on the i20 1.6 is really awesome.

i20 1.4 and Kia Rio both use the same engine. If I'm not mistaken the Remix is a 1.4 engine so I would opt for the Kia Rio 1.4 manual.

Btw. Kia and Hyundai are the same company so if you are already considering a Hyundai there is no reason not to get a Kia.

It's actually a very good deal. Gonna look at one tomorrow just for the sake of making an informed decision.

Also have a look at the Kia Rio. maybe the Hyundai Accent as well. Same price, but newer and sedan shape.

Mazda have a huge special on the Mazda3 sport at the moment. Something like 40k off so within you price range.

I got the i20 1.6 last year April and it is an awesome little car. With the additions to make the Remix, it is even better.

With regards to juice, doing 80km/h for 100km was 6L. Doing 120km/h for 160km was 7L. Well that is what I have seen when resetting the meters and going to see clients. Always starting from my house, on the coast.

I always work it out the other way around. i get about 9L-10L per km. How much does it come out to if you convert it to my formula.

What? Your car uses 10litres of fuel per km?? Eish that sucks! What do you drive a Boeing?

Is this yours?

they are most definitely not. Both South Korean but not the same.

Hyundai owns 49% of Kia and their cars come from the Hyundai-Kia Group
They use platform sharing like Mazda/Ford/Volvo Renualt/Nissan Audi/VW Chev/Daewoo/Opel etc etc
Keep in mind they appear to use platform & part sharing but not Badge engineering like Daewoo=Chev

R170k for a i20?!?!?!?!?!

Granted I know its new, but fark me thats mental money.

Excellent choice, the i20 beats any other deal out there.

Closest runner up you might want to consider is the Corsa Essentia, but you'll loose out on power (1.4) and comforts like all round electric windows and a trip computer.

Agree. Last month I was buying my car last month I thought of the i20 but it was too much for what it was. Its still an awesome cat but it falls into the price range of too little for too much, for an extra R20K and you can get yourself so much more.

You obviously haven't looked at car prices recently. :)
An entry level Toyota Auris 1.6 is R215K and it doesn't even have the amount of features as the i20 let alone the Kia Rio.
You can do the same comparison with nearly every other manufacturer.

Personally I'd go with the MUCH better speced Kia Rio 1.4 Tec Man (same price as the i20 1.6 GLS at around R170K).

The Kia has:
- Climate control
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Heated side mirrors
- Leather seats
- LED daytime running lights
- Power folding mirrors
- Rain sensing wipers
- Rear park assist
- 17 inch alloy rims

Like what?

I have looked at car prices recently, and its PRECISELY the reason I will not buy new....

I can get considerably more for my money buying a previously abused car... I paid R170k for my Mercedes ffs....

I know what you mean.
I bought my first new car two years ago and judging by the way prices are escalating it will be the only new vehicle I ever buy.
Just got to be really careful when buying second hand - I had a bad experience even after the AA quality checks and all.

what better can you get for an extra 20K? name them.
the problem is not so much that its a new car, but buying new the added addons makes the monthly repayment ridiculous. when you buy new, you MUST take out INSURANCE and maybe even a tracker system. now all of it will probably add up to the price of your monthly bond on a home. now you ask yourself. is it really worth it to spend so much $ for a car. i have not even include the petrol money which is rising by the months. best is to go 2nd hand, but 2nd hand car's prices has gone up at least 10% of what they were about 5-10 years ago.
