i20 Remix Comments

I like the i20, but in that price range I'll concider the Honda Jazz Trend or Comfort. See the i20 1.4 is cheaper?

Yeah Honda Jazz doesn't touch the i20 IMHO. Went to look at it and wasn't impressed, especially considering that when I went looking the Jazz had a puny engine for R20k more than the i20 1.6. Not even mentioning it didn't come with all the extras.

Didn't like driving it at all either, through corners the car felt so heavy.

Power output is slightly higher on the Kia. 74kW vs 79kW.

Interesting. Both are Gamma engines tho. Guess the Rio has an updated version.

EDIT: Also, Remix is the 1.6...

Awesome deal then.

they are most definitely not. Both South Korean but not the same.

This has already been pointed out by others but I thought I'd rub it in:

Wikipedia: Kia said:
Kia Motors (Korean: 기아자동차, IPA: [ki.a]), headquartered in Seoul, is South Korea's second-largest automobile manufacturer, following the Hyundai Motor Company, with sales of over 1.4 million vehicles in 2010. The company is partly owned by the Hyundai Motor Group and since August 2009 has been led by Hyoung-Keun (Hank) Lee.
...
Kia Motors Corporation (KMC) was founded in 1944, is Korea's oldest manufacturer of motor vehicles and is now a division of the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group

True, Kia is actually the cheaper brand in that relationship.

About the engines, Hyundai has in recent years made some of the most awesome engines out there. I have not driven a Gamma car yet but I really love the Kappa 1.25 of the i10 and the award winning Tau V8 is probably my favorite scene in the movie Inception : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNOLd0tCAg8

The Theta II in it's various forms is an impressive engine.
From 115kW in basic NA form (Cerata/Forte) through to 204kW in turbo form (Sonata).

why didnt we ever get this kia in SA ...its stunning

I test drove the i30 1.6, i20 1.6 and the Rio 1.4.
I purchased the Rio 1.4 TEC Manual.

Why?
Because of the feeling I get from the finishing of the interior. I have never seen this level of quality in a car going for less than 200k.
Astounding.

I test drove a 2011 Mercedes 200K for kicks, and was let-down hugely.

Though the Hyundai 1.6 had a much more 'eager' motor, the ride comfort and other comforts won my heart over.
The sunroof is a bit of a 'nice-to-have' but everything else is perfect.
:)

PS

Rims are sweet.
:)

You obviously haven't looked at car prices recently. :)

Exactly what I was thinking?! We've been paying through our arses for cars in SA for some time now.
R170K for a new i20 is a damn good deal if you consider the specs you get compared to the ridiculously overpriced hatches of Toyota/Mazda/Ford.
