Good day..

I just want to ask, If I get a motherboard with the CPU (i3) and then later I want to upgrade to i7 will the motherboard be able to take it?

I don't know what motherboard it is... but I was thinking, because if you get a 775 motherboard, you can take C2Q as well and celeron... (it's all in the same generation... If you know what I mean..)

Thanks

No, i3, i5 socket LGA1156, i7 - socket LGA1366

EDIT: Sorry, I see that there are i7's for 1156

You will be able to upgrade, but I'm not sure what the future of the i7 will be like on 1156. I think most future i7's will be on 1333

i3 and i5 use socket LGA1156.
i7 8xx series also uses LGA1156, while i7 9xx series uses LGA1366.

However Intel are going to switch to a new socket (again) for all their CPUs next year when they bring out Sandy Bridge, which is why I'm going to hang on to my LGA775 C2Q system until then.

additionally, the LGA1156 i7's are quite pricey (much more than the i7 920) so the upgrade ends up costing an arm and a leg...

Rather just go to socket 1366 first time around.

being intel, they'll probably release a new motherboard socket before you have a chance to upgrade :p

Well I was just looking through different computer shops catalog.. It's not like I'm going to get everything and then put them together... because I'm rather scared that I don't know how to handle these new technology.. (i.e blue screens.. and beeping noises)

So I'm going to get a "whole" computer.. and just adding in things that I want (Like GPU and RAM.. etc etc...)

So I will be able to upgrade up until the i7 8xx series? That sound ok.. not too bad...

What is the difference? (Speed? more MB?) But you know when it does come out.. It's going to cost more than the i-series... But do you guys think, that price is going to drop after the "sandy bridge" comes out?

I want to.. but it costs like 3 grand more just to get the upgrade... (I'm talking about the whole computer sale ... )

I don't have such money to spend... Sigh.. But Hopefully the price will come down.. (fingers crossed...)

I see...

But they all use the same ram right? Like DDR 3 1333? Or something like that...

i think it depends on the board. lga1366 uses ddr3 ram and the cpu itself has a ddr3 mem controller, but its backward compatible to ddr2.

No, both LGA1366 and LGA1156 platforms require DDR3 memory. The main differences between the i7 on the aforementioned platforms are:

1156:
*Dual Channel memory controller
*Limited SLI/Crossfire capability (8x/8x typically)

1366
*Triple channel memory controller
*Better SLI/Crossfire capability (16x/16x)

If your going to use intensive memory applications (Photo and Video encoding/editing) the 1366 socket is the way to go.

Just note that the 1366 platform also supports dual channel memory, but one would typically go for the triple channel option.

The 1366 motherboards that I have looked at only support DDR3, not DDR2.
