IBM supercomputer system put to work

IBM’s supercomputer system, best known for trouncing the world’s best “Jeopardy!” players on TV, is being tapped by one of the largest U.S. health insurers to help diagnose medical problems and authorize treatments.

Great, just what we need, more centralized government-operated computer systems to tell the public what they need. Nice profits for big Pharma; have they learnt nothing from MERS?

A cellphone has enough computational power to run a Bayesian diagnostic classifier; they have only to provide an open-source diagnostic library available online to work with the app. You don't need a supercomputer, unless you want to control and obscure the results and treatments.
