iBurst 64Bit drivers available

Hi Guys,

After reading all these posts I am not quite sure what the final word is.

I am Running Windows 7 RC 64 Bit, Iburst PCMCIA Modem Type02-01. (old one)

Is there a hack / workaround to make something available currently work.

Really dont want to have to downgrade to 32 bit so would appreciate any help.

For the record, the same modem was working perfectly on 32 bit Windows 7 RC for the last few weeks.

Thanks

Windows 7

As far as I know there is no workaround for using any 32 bit driver under 64 bit.

I gave up on Windows 7 RC, most of the drivers for my laptop won't install under it. Besides it looks just like Vista but with a screwed quicklaunch bar :P

There IS no 64Bit drivers for the PCMCIA Modem at this time. Old or New. I even personally checked the international iBurst sites. Shaun Green did the same. iBurst claimed that Kyocera are phasing out this device in favour of the Express Modem so chances of support i the furture are slim. However, 64Bit divers are available for all the other iBurst devices for Windows XP, Vista and 7. I tested it as well. The FINAL word :-)

Mr^Spock: I got Windows 7 Beta 1 and RC 1 to work perfectly on many laptops. Both x64 and 32bit. PM with your details and we can sort out your problems.Even oldish machines. It's worth the effort. Trust me.

Windows 7

My driver problem is basically Acer's fault, their driver installations check what version of windows they are running on and refuse to install unless its Vista. I suspect that if I extracted files from the installer and manually assigned them they would work under Windows 7 but can't be bothered, I will wait for Acer to release Windows 7 updates.

Ok assuming the worst re the PCMCIA cards, where can I get a cheap USB or express card modem?

Preferrably USB, I have express on my laptop but obviously USB is more versatile cos I can violate company security by plugging in directly to their workstations and connecting to Iburst :)

However, 64Bit divers are available for all the other iBurst devices for Windows XP, Vista and 7. I tested it as well. The FINAL word :-)
Hmmm, the best news I've seen all day! So, I've got a UTU and Win7.7100 64bit on which I ran the Vista64 driver I got from Redball Internet. I'm not 100% sure it worked as the install borked part way through but device manager does show the itBust modem as being a recognised device. Still, before I commit and put my UTD n old UTC up for sale I want an install process that isn't ..funky. So, is that file you linked to earlier what I'm after?

Hmmm, not very good news at all. I really dont want to go and purchase USB devices to replace PCMCIA devices. Busy checking iBurst cancellation options, fortunately we are at the point where there are other wireless possibilites.

The Acer driver's can be installed if you run the in Vista Compatibility mode. However, here is the procedure I follow when installing a Windows 7 system:

1. Delete partitions and install
2. Install security software
3. Run Windows Update
4. Install critical updates, install new drivers that Windows Update downloaded, don't install unnecessary language packs etc.
5. Use Device Manager to locate missing drivers and download these drivers from your manufacturer.s support site ( Vista Drivers or Windows 7 Drivers if available) eg. www.acer.co.za
6. Right-click on Vista driver and install in Vista Compatibility Mode.
7. Install everything else that's needed.

I couldn't get the drivers to install even in Vista Compatibility Mode, still got "This program requires Vista" error message.

Drastik, you will eventually want to get a new latest-and-greatest laptop and the new laptop will not have a PCMCIA slot, so you are going to want to replace the PCMCIA modem at some stage in the future anyway. The phasing out of PCMCIA is not an Iburst specific thing.

Mr^Spock: Check your PM's. Also, can you list the drivers that you are missing and the model of your laptop? Thanks.

Hi Mr Spock

Thats exactly what got us into this spot of bother in the first place, buying new high spec laptops.

Unfortunately, they do have PCMCIA slots.

Thanks

Acer drivers

Hi Vinodh, not to worry, I am waiting for the real Windows 7 release by which time Acer will very likely have put out Windows 7 driver installs.

Its an Acer Travelmate 8215WLMi, it was one of the first Acer Core 2 Duos, you can use the touchpad to fry an egg in summer and the air vents to dry your laundry but otherwise pretty good value for money.

Please excuse my ignorance but what did you right click to run in Vista Mode?I also need the 64 bit driver for windows 7.I tried going to the properties of connect and switching it to Vista compatibility and it did not work.

Any help would be appreciated.
