I got disconnected at like 5 just as I got up to read emails before I leave and now for the last hour and a bit I have been getting 'access denied' messages whenever I try connect. Is the auth server down? Are they playing with something? Anyone else getting this?

This is the latest **** from i burst, I have left my connection on since all the terrible speeds started with iBurst and look at this email I got froim them:

Dear XXXX,

Your iBurst account has been suspended due to your inordinate consumption of bandwidth. Please contact our call centre (0861 927 4357) for information on how to reactivate your account during normal office hours (Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.)

Please check your bandwidth monitor (http://helpdesk.wbs.co.za) to see details of your usage to date.

Regards,

WBS Helpdesk

So WBS thinks it is our responsibility to enforce their cap?!?!?!?! If their system lets us use bandwidth once we hit our cap who's problem is this!!

I cannot connect anymore, can you beleive the liberties these guys take. Nevermind the bad service we have had, and being treated like guinea pigs and still being charged full price for it, where in the specs does it say: "once you hit your cap you will be throttled, and then if you use more than we like we will cancel you access as we choose"

This is typical of their crap , so everyone look out! And lets not put up with this!

oh my g0d, I just checked my mail, and I have the same email in my inbox.
This is ridiculous, I'm sorry but this is just about the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

So basically the whole '1mbit up to the cap and 64kbit after' thing is all a lie, its 1mbit (if they see fit) up to your cap and then you get throttled untill you hit some magic number no one ever mentioned and then they suspend the account. Its not my problem if thier capping software doesn't work, and even if it did work, whats the magic number? how much can we download at 64kbit?

I didn't sign up for this, I can't believe they're seriously going to move the goal posts to suit themselves. This could be the last straw. I will call at 8:30 on the dot but all I expect is a warning and to get told how much we are allowed to download at 64kbit, if they give me some ridiculous answer or ask me to pay an extra cent we are gonna have problems.

lets review what we all signed up for shall we?

on the package page over @ https://secure.wbs.co.za/cfusion/wbs/subscriberaccountsignup/packages.cfm if you click the package you use, probably the 3GB if you scroll down the page and see the last row of the ugly flash table, it clearly says:
Usage Allowance:
The first 3GB FREE Usage of capacity is included monthly

Once the monthly quota has been used, the burst rate will be restricted to 64kbps. Additional capacity can be purchased during the course of the month. Unused quota is not carried over month to month. Additional bandwith purchased is only available in the calender month purchased.
It doesn't say jack about restricting the amount you may use once you are capped, my contract didn't say any of this either, I know because I remember this is one of the reasons I went with iBurst because they said they just cap you after you use the monthly quota and after that you get throttled till you either buy more bandwith or till the new month comes.

This is unacceptable, I'm actually getting disgusted by thier corperate attitude, every week they invent new ways to leverage money out of us (like if i buy bandwith on April 30th I get charged for it but they are allowed to take it away the very next day, or how if you download 4GB while throttled and you want to buy your way to 1mbit again you have to purchase 4 or more GB to pay for the throttled deficit). The thing thats really pissing me off while I write this is the fact that they do stuff liek this when its thier fault, when they launch with software and policies that obviously don't work yet and now its my fault. I am totally expecting the idiots at the call desk to tell me I need to pay for a 're-activation' fee or even buy all the GBs I used up while throttled back before I can use iBurst again, and thats when I think I might snap. Anybody know a good lawyer?

Account Suspended

Just got to work and opened my mail. I see that WBS have sent me an email informing me that my account has been suspended due to excessive usage.
I've used about 25GB so far this month.

I'm not about to bitch here so hear me out.

I know people that are supposed to be capped but are getting full speeds when downloading. They download about 4GB a day & since I'm capped only download about 500MB a day. Why suspend my account when I'm already capped? I could do about 250MB on my 56k modem as I connect at 54k to my ISP and can get good speeds (6KB/s).

I guess I'm gonna have to cancel my account and sell my modem soon. Did any other bandwidth hog get the email?

yepp, I got the same thing, read http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=19685

so if they suspended you with 25 that sucks, I used 52 so I figured thier magic number was around 50GB, so if I used 49 that wouldn't be "Excessive" but if they did it to you at 25, well that just bums me out.

Theres no way I'm paying to get my account back and I think I will have to go for ADSL now, since they're gonna have 1mbit in a month or two. As far as I'm concerned WBS have just shot iBurst in the head.

Dont accept it guys.

Wbs your service is a bit of a leaky boat at present and now you want to rock it?

Not clever.

No access to my WBS email either so everything is blocked for us bandwidth hogs. I'm pretty sure my friend will be pi$sed off when he gets here and finds that nasty email from wbs.

Are you serious? (the happy part)
Was, till my account got suspended. I'll just have to sell my modem and get a chipped PS2 :) which I was going to buy next weekend anyway.

yeah but one thing they forgot to mention is they suspend your account if they deem your usage during the cap to be "Excessive", what is "Excessive"? Well they don't know exactly, since I was suspended at 52GB and my brother who uses iBurst just phoned me to say he was suspended too, he doesn't use the internet that much so when I logged into his bandwith monitor it said he had used 7GB, so maybe its not better to be capped after all.

I guess you're not supposed to use your account after reaching your cap. I'll give 'em a call & if they give me $hit I'm cancelling & telling everyone I know to stay away from $hitty WBS. Word of mouth will kill their business!

I'm looking forward to the phone call at 8:30, and the longer I'm on hold the more pissed off I am going to get. If they ask me to pay one cent its gonna get ugly.

Interesting note, The banner on this page while I write this says I can get an ADSL account for 599 and get 30GB, gee I wonder if WBS know how sh1tty thier product looks next to that.

this is ****ing ridiculous

i'm driving to wbs offices today and cancelling. I can do without the internet for a while anyway. This has gone far enough

they suspend your ****ing account for downloading on their throttled service, what a joke. I'm definately looking at other options right about now...

suspending accounts due to excessive downloading.... how nice... apparently, if you download more than 3 gig without paying it, even if their website says you'll be put on the 64k throttled service, they'll suspend your account...

how nice of them

well we dont know what the magic number is, it could even be 1Gb over, and at no time did we sign on for this, or even get warned about this, they just go suspend a bunch of peoples accounts between midnight and 5AM

WTF!
I've been disconnected as well.
Bandwith usage = 9GB down, 11GB up.

20GB total.

I would like to see where they drew the line. So other disconnected people, please post your usage. And you know, it is so nice of them to tell us about this so we can plan our bandwidth useage. Oh, I forgot... They did not!

I am cancelling today. They can go and screw themselves.
