iBurst Accounts Suspended Without Warning

Slim - what if your position is reversed ?

i.e. You could not download, and now suddenly that some users have been denied acces, you could.

Could you honestly say that you wouldn't be happier ?

The bottom line is you dont choose your customers, they choose you.

ic,

Don't worry mate,

Just stick to what is true!! I'm not even an I-Burst customer but I'm also fuming over their actions. I fail to see the rationale behind this. Especially since it was very obvious to predict the amount of negative publicity they are about to receive.

It's amazing to see that they think that the ppl that we're disconnected are a minority which will not hamper the growth of their company significantly. Any reseller, company involved in the online industry are following this forum closely. This will influence their desicion regarding providers.

I just say, G'luck to WBS!! You are in for a self-induced bumpy ride from now on!!

:)

LOUISP - you don't get it - they are probably counting on a lot of negative publicity here, which they would turn into good publicity easily with quick protect our users type answers.

That's why you MUST focus your complaints on WBS's potential to skrew customers over in the future, based on the fact that they don't meet their contractual obligations. Never mind the rest of this stuff. WBS DONT MEET THEIR CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS is the complaint.

Ok so are you also going to stop buying lotto tickets because WBS are idiots.

Forgot about that!!

So that is the reason why I never buy lotto tickets!!!

I can see clearly now the.... bandwidth's gone!!!

Stoke,

No I do get it, and I also think they argued somewhere on those lines, BUT, they should have known that it will not work.

When I tell my friend that I-Burst is absolute cr@p and don't go near it unless you feel like giving away money for free, then I-Burst can try all the marketing tricks in teh world, but they won't beat my simple 2 sentences to my friend!!

And that is what matters!!

I mean, think about it, with how many people did you discuss broadband and services within the last week only!!

:)

louisp - yup - interesting - I counted 18 people since monday - excluding this forum, but then again, i've never had anything good to say about iburst, sentech nor megawan - the one that started it all. :)

I see a couple of iBursters have already expressed their feelings at http:www.hellopeter.com . I would personally urge others to do so as well as this is all free publicity. No, I am not an iBurster, but I've been through the Sentech saga and you guys have my sympathy.

yeah ok if I was one of the users that had slow speeds and today got faster speeds I would be downloading and probably loving it however I would also see that WBS seem to think they have the power to make the rules as they go along and break legal binding contracts whenever they please, they I would ask whens it goin to happen to me. Anyways the problem is not/was not the power users and I guarantee you are not all getting 1mbit right now and I bet theres some people in the exact same position they were in yesterday as far as problems are concerned.

maybe WBS decide later today they would be more profitable with 512kbit connections and then tonight without warning they flip the switch and everyone is on 512, then next week they're like "hey we could be more profitable with 192k". where does it end?

It's not about profitable necessarily. I clearly see to problems here:

1 - iBurst being ham-handed in their dealing with customers and inept in their implementation of the cap
2 - greedy bastards that will download as much as possible and knowingly take advantage of a system - to the detriment of others who had no hand whatsoever in issues raised in point 1.

My take: I'd be happier if iBurst showed a bit more nous, and equally happier if these selfish users were not sharing the same network I was.

Thanks

Ciao

Zak

My connection is back.. but i had to purchase more bandwidth..(need it for work)

Great a whole day's work lost.. they could have warned us..

Bjorn,
I refuse to pay more. What happens when you used up another 6GB (3GB + 3GB over) ?? Will they pull the same tricks like they did today? Exactly how did you order the 1GB? Did you need to phone helpdesk?

I need my connection for work, wasnt aware of any cutting off the service, thought it was throttled to 64, I phoned them at 11:30 to order it, they then said the would fax me the form, this only come 5 phn calls later and at 15:30 filled it out and tried to fax it back, faxline was busy for 15 mins then went thru, Magically came back at just after 16:00.
Speeds are great now tho

ok so I was one of those people who were suspended for exceeding their cap.

I did 7 Gig down and 1 up

a total of 8 gig

I only saw the email when I got to the office this morning as my account was killed at 5 o clock this morning but the email only popped up AFTER i was suspended.

Now thats some great ****ing thinking wbs

disconnect then send an email? and how was I sposed to read the email ?

Now my only problem with this whole thing is the following.

I dont mind a cap
I dont mind not getting sufficient warning
I dont mind the little things

but what I do ****ing mind is the stupidity of this company to go out and punish users because they have failed to implement a working cap system.

You are already punishing me because you cant tell me why for the last 3 months I only get between 7 & 20 k whereas in november I was getting 1mb

After holding on the phone for more than 20 minutes I get told "oh but you should keep an eye on the website to monitor your own bandwidth"

Excuse me?

why should I police myself?

If I have trusted you as a company to be able to supply me with a decent solution that throttles my connection if I go over the limit then you should not expect me to police myself.

This is the most absurd business practice I have ever encountered in my life and it wnt surprise me if they get reported to an ombudsman or whatever there is for this kind of thing as well as getting sued.

I am really sorry wbs but you guys started sucking a while back and now suck so much that you are starting to look like Linda Lovelace.

Stop lying to us
Stop stealing from us
Deliver on your promises
and stop ****ing around.

I think to a point I burst are full of ****, but i can also see how they say what they say, if you have a 3 gig cap and you have downloaded 52 gig lol, you serisouly cant say your not taking the piss. Besides you all fall into exactly what telkom say, they cap 3 gig to stop piss takers and that means people downloading 10 gig plus a month, without being funny how the **** do you download 10 gig + of legal "data" a month lol, there isint that mauch available on the net period ha ha.
So as you can see they are probably correct in saying your doing something illegal

Zaktoo, it has NOTHING to do with people downloading lots of stuff and EVERYTHING to do with WBS not implementing there cap properly. The heavy downloads didn't affect them before the launch, so it's obvious that theire capping system caused this since the launch. Theire excuse about heavy users is pathetic as NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM IF THE CAP WORKED PROPERLY. We wouldn't even be having this discussion. If Pick n Pay had a special on cokes for R2.99, but 5 per customer only, they are MANAGING theire sales. That's so that you can't pull up with your truck & buy up the whole lot. BUT, if Pick n Pay ALLOWS you to fill your truck & take it all, you would, because they ALLOWED you. It's really that simple.

I downloaded a gentoo linux live cd, the limited packages cd, additional packages for gentoo linux while the installation was running , my emails and I browsed.

How illegal is that ?

Clearly, the bandwidth management failed. We kind of sussed that pretty early this month. Did we get any communication from WBS that this had happened? No. So everyone gets krap speeds, and WBS explain nothing. But they can only limit single threads, multithreaded you can still max out your connection. So the capping only effects the browser/email brigade, while the big downloaders continue unhinded full speed ahead. Was there any communication from WBS about that? No. Any temporary limits imposed? No. Any attempt whatsoever to inform customers or ask so-called abusers to ease off? No. Any warning of suspensions? No.

Was there just total mismanagement and incompetence on WBS's part? Yes, yes, yes.

Obviously not illegal, and if you want to use your 3 gigs to do that that's fine. Personally I'd pay the R25 or whatever to Linuxwarehouse or get a friend to burn a copy for me - far more sensible than downloading for me.

Interesting fact for users who used more than 9GB download is that you may NOT revive your account by purchasing a GB, you have to wait till May 1st when the account's bandwith counter is reset.

Apparantly thier new policy is that you may get double your original quota, so if you are on the 3GB account you get 3Gb at 1mbit, then you can use 3Gb at 64k and then... suspended
