hey i am just trying to save a buck for forumites that can be used on more bandwidth or whiskey or both :)

in three words or less he said it is not worth the effort, cuz it has a slim (no pun intended) chance to get very far.
 
yeah I mean most people probably don't have near enough evidence for small claims and fighting in a normal court against WBS or any national corperation is pretty stupid, but I hope someone tries it out, because if you take away this little suspension thing fromt eh equation I think iBurst is one of the best you can hope to get in Sa (they are a far way off other ISPs all over the world for sure but in SA its as good as you can hope to get)
 
hey Chronos, do you really think that if we were stealing bandwidth from iBurst we would write about it all around the web and on the news sites? You don't have to be very smart to figure that out, but obviously you are not.

Before asking stupid question try read around the forum, it is not just slimothy's posts, there are many people complaining, you must be blind if you don't see it.

I also agree that WBS were at fault with the Account Suspensions - my opinion on that has not changed, and forumites can go read what I had to say about last week's events. However, [post=197769]the question that Chronos originally asked[/post] [which somewhat derailed the "Is Iburst suitable for irc?" thread] was IMO whether or not the trick that Slimothy had described for getting IRC to work again with iBurst, was in fact bypassing the WBS iBurst Bandwidth Manager...
Sasan Parvin, CTO at iBurst, says the 64Kbps throttle is in place and working fine.

He accuses the suspended customers of being irresponsible, and says WBS had no other option but to disconnect them because some users had found a way to bypass the 64Kbps throttle.

If Sasan was confident about the 64kBits/s throttle actually being 100% operational and working, he should have elaborated on what he meant by "found a way to bypass the 64Kbps throttle", so far that has not been clarified or proved to be the case by WBS...

From the customer's perspective - just used the supposedly throttled 64kBits/s iBurst Internet connection that WBS provided...

However WBS alleges that customers deliberately/willfully bypassed the throttle - what is Sasan saying? - that a group of customers hacked their way past WBS' Bandwidth Management throttle?...

Seriously you have to ask yourself what others will perceive the between the lines message to be when reading what Sasan told ITWeb...play the record backwards, the message is quite different, and IMO WBS are proclaiming how easy their own systems are to "hack" - even novice customers seem to be skilled at doing it...
 
Nothing was hacked.... the trick being referred to was one of two things:

1) Connecting to IRC before opening up other apps

2) Pinging sites before downloading from them after being capped

So why all this debate, accusations and other BS?
 
ok first off i dont want to know how you knew wether was a castrated ram, I think you knew what it was before you went to dictionary.com

next up, nobody used the trick i decribed to gain full speed back then because liek I said it was not possible, and I don't want to give myself too much credit but I'm sure if there was a trick back then I would have found it, fact is you didn't need a trick

as for right now... if you are capped... you can achieve full speeds using the trick, I don't know who to contact about that at WBS, or if I should even bother but it is entirley possible, but more for downloads or data streams and not for general web surfing

Kei, I was referring to the insinuations attributed to Sasan Parvin in the ITWeb article. IMO, the message that Sasan allegedly is conveying to the general public out there reading the article, is that some customers bypassed the throttle, which is really just a euphemism for hacking past the throttle, now ask yourself whether or not all of the customers whose accounts were suspended actively hacked their way past the throttle, or just used the service assuming WBS' throttle was working to WBS' own unpublished specification...

Guys the fact of the matter is I was suspended for downloading over 10GB. WBS's bw manager wasn't working properly as I was only throttled to about 20KB/s. I queued a lot of stuff & it was going at 20KB/s (which wasn't my fault). I refuse to sit in front of my PC all day monitoring my bw usage. It would've been perfectly fine if my downloads were going at 8KB/s max.

I normally download during weekends only as I know exactly what I want and I just queue the stuff. This whole weekend I was downloading at 2-7.5KB/s till I kept getting disconnected. After 30 minutes I connected and noticed that my download was going at 12KB/s then 50KB/s. The fact is their bw management system still doesn't work.
This is their problem not mine!

Back to the topic. I remember reading that they'll be monitoring bandwidth usage very closely. What's the point of waiting for people to download too much*? Just fix the bw manager!

* WBS needs to give us an exact figure.
 
oh really, well last I checked java was a typed language, so how come you declare usage as a variable (which was correct) but reference it against '10GB' and '3GB' which are strings :p then the string 'rebel' wasn't in quotes, not double or single, so it would make an error

I know how you feel I had all the bandwidth not even used up @ all, there are ways to bypass the bandwidth monitor system thats now in place but they wont tell you anything @ all since they want to abuse......

I'll be honest I'm now on 64 kb/s speed and my bandwidth are the wrost off im lucky if i can get 0 kb/s just surf for me nothing else to do. I time out from MSN,IRC, and loads of places. I just give up to be honest with u

Some of us try to use a service as its supposed to be, if others cant respect that I feel nothing for them. Its theft, plain and simple. You paid for 3GB's, you've taken 6GB's at an uncapped rate - you're stealing from the rest who are paying.
