Hi all, I got an iBurst G1 account 2 months ago.

Firstly I am VERY happy with iBurst. The only times I have EVER been disconnected was when my PC crashed or I had to reboot for some reason. The speed is excellent until capped, then it is 64k as advertised.

Now all I want to know is how do I use NewsBin to download stuff with iBurst?

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks!

Does iBurst have a news server?

I'd love for there to be one, but at this stage, if iBurst have one of their own, they've kept ultra-quiet about it.

Is it possible to use a public news server? Or can you use any news server out there (for example news.mweb.co.za)?

That is what I want to know.

As an iBurst user, can I use newsgroups?

If I have a proxy to overseas, can I use any overseas news server?

Thanx!

Ok, I have subscribed to news.microsoft.com with absolutely no hassles. So the trick is to find a public news server. news.mweb.co.za is restricted to those on the MWeb network - as is the case with most servers (I seem to remember SAIX doing the same).

Let us know if you find a general news server.

<edit>
http://freenews.maxbaud.net/ - a site that maintains an up-to-date list of free newsgroup servers.

nntp.uunet.co.za .....
Its horrible :( I'm a uunet subscriber and had to resort to a paid service instead.

You can use any international news group as long as it isnt a smallish closed one as most of the SA news servers are.

But htat is not very common for international ones. The trick is finding one that you dont pay for.

Even the paid ones are only r50-60 for 30gb - not that bad.

JA, its totally worth it if you cant find what you need any where else for free.

But I can generally find 3 gigs of stuff off P2P and internet download sites in a month prety easily.
