Hi everyone
I've just signed up for a new Iburst package and I have a question: Has anybody else experienced irregularities in the way Iburst calculates bandwidth usage?

I've been on for about 5 days now and my bandwidth usage is thru the roof. Haven't downloaded much (+/- 400mb) and haven't installed any updates or streamed any video, yet according to Iburst my usage is over 1Gb already.
Seems strange, maybe I'm missing something here?

Thanks

Thanks for the assistance Ivan.

Do you have any recommendations for Bandwidth monitors?
Currently I'm using Symantec Antivirus and Adaware - not good enuff?

Thanks again

1) Type normally not everyone here is blind:cool:
2) You do know that Symantec (Norton Antivirus) and Adaware are not bandwith monitors?

Anyway for nastiest like that, consider installing Windows Defender might help with adaware and spyware..

Apologies for the huge font, just realised that now...

Yeah, I'm aware that Symantec Antivirus and AdAware are not bandwidth monitors, I shall keep a closer eye on grammar in the future.

That's what you get for asking too many questions at once I guess :p

No problem

Also make sure that nothing is set to automatically update its self. (Windows Update anyone)

Bandwidth monitors:
BWMeter
PRTG
Network Bandwidth Monitor

Symantec? ew! get rid of that, its probably chewing up your bandwidth ... I'm not a fan! lol

Hi again all

Quick update:
I installed AVG as per your recommendation Ivan and it picked up some stuff lurking around my PC that Symantec didn't even see.
Long story short, amongst these was a worm that was downloading data packets in the background (managed to download over 1Gb's worth). So I nuked e'm, did a re-install and now all is well. :D

Thanks to all again for the assistance.

Doesn't the dashboard reflect the same amount of data transfer as the iBurst PPPoE dial-up connection?

It should and it must, especially if you connect through it.

But I'd run an extra bandwidth monitor just for the assurance.

Well, I ran the dashboard for a while, then the normal iBurst Terminal and then I ran BW Meter and I must say that I get very accurate readings from the iBurst Terminal app. as well as BW Meter.

The problem that I found, with the iBurst dashboard, was that it was not reflecting the downloaded packets that the worm was pulling down, fast enough. That and the fact that I didn't like having this massive orange disc invading my desktop space all whole time. It's also a bit buggy, sometimes it would reflect "disconnected" while I was online.

But since I've been using AVG and AdAware I haven't had a problem (touch wood). :)

I just love how ppl get migrated to new packages in the middle of the month, but the bandwidth doesn't materialise!!!

I'm on a 9.5GB package now, have used 3.2GB and apparently i have 147mb left...

9.5 - 3.2 <> 0.147!!!!

[Who let the accounts ppl calculate bandwidth!!]
