I was just thinking.

With mtn and vodacom doing 3.6Mps HSDPA and lining up 7.2 and telkom asdl on 4Mps obviously moving higher soon thanks to the cell operators.

iBurst need to do something speed wise to avoid being left behind.

What puts even more pressure on them is that Neotel will be launching residential services in March and they will have exactly the same setup as iBurst from the consumer's point of view. Even though Neotel won't be competing on speed they will be far cheaper when it comes to price per gig.

At least we know with all this competition they won't be increasing prices.

Their top up price for a gig is madness.

You mentioned all of the reasons why I cancelled iBurst

1. Speed
2. Cost

I get 3 times the speed from Vodacom for R10 less :D

Speaking of iBurst ... did you guys see old Knott Graig on Carte Blanche last night ... sending pretty e-mails to make his staff stop crying ... maybe he should focus on getting his company out of the dark hole it is in and start competing with the other providers.

I reckon Vodacom's wimax offering is what's gonna knock down iBurst.

Last time I checked, Alan Knott-Craig Snr was CEO of Vodacom Group and his son, being Alan Knott-Craig Jnr, was MD of WBS (iBurst).
I don't see them cutting each others throats.

I reckon Vodacom's wimax offering is what's gonna knock down iBurst.

They are using iBursts license as they do not have one of their own. Mmmm, wonder how long it will be before iBurst becomes completely absorbed by Vodacom.

The reason why iBurst are not dropping prices or increasing speeds is because Vodacom do not want them to. They would be quite happy if iBurst remained uncompetitive as they only need them for the Wimax license anyway.

Time for them to own up and say what we said when Knott-Craig Jnr was put at the helm and Vodacom bought the 1st 10%, they will be taking over iBurst and it will gradually be dismantled and absorbed into Vodacom.

So don't hold out any hope of iBurst becoming competitive in terms of speed and price.
