As someone who was fortunate enough to be able to live in the UK for 4 years, I had the opportunity to try out several Internet Service Providers in that part of the world. What was startling was how bad so many of them were – even with the improved infrastructure and the connections many times faster than those available to us in Africa, so many of them provided terrible customer service, and seemed to want to squeeze as many subscriptions onto the limited section of infrastructure that they had as possible, causing degradation and less-than-promised results. Sound familiar? They were very average ISPs – ones that I moved away from quickly. In the end I was fortunate enough to find an ISP that provided me with a relatively stable connection. It was fast and did what I expected (it was fibre optic 10-meg and uncapped! Wouldn’t that be a dream in SA. Well one can dream!) – but importantly, when it went down or didn’t perform, people could tell me why more often than they couldnt, and generally the performance was restored pretty quickly. The average (bad) ISP’s could never tell me what was wrong, or wouldn’t tell me anyway, and performance took many months to improve. As if asking me to cycle the power on my router for the 3rd time would make some kind of major improvement.

And here we have iBurst. Nothing more than an average ISP, providing inconsistent internet performance, and little to no customer service depending on who you speak to. It’s bloody ridiculous. Along with many other people using iBurst, I suffer ever single time I try to play World of Warcraft. So much so that I sent an email to Shaun asking if there was anything that could be done for Cape Town users as the Joburg users were getting statics. I didn’t get a direct response to that but I did notice an improvement in service for several days. That was before yesterday when the connection went pear shaped again, and, once again, I’m left feeling frustrated and disappointed – because the very simple thing that I want to do as a consumer – use the internet for some entertainment – just doesn’t appear to be feasible with iBurst. The impression is forming in my mind that iBurst is a learning organisation…learning as they go along, sort of, but not really sure whats cracking to begin with. It’s absolutely farcical.

So if I need to ask here as well in the hopes that something will happen….why on earth is my latency to WoW servers on average 1000ms? Im more than happy and prepared to play with up to 500ms but this seems hard to come by. This is annoying me to no end and I don’t believe that iBurst is the right solution for me….or for that matter my extended family, friends and clients.

Any other CT users here also having problems?

I apologise for the delay. This has been assigned to a technician in Cape Town for further investigation.

I have requested an update and will let you know the outcome.
