:(Will Cape Town iBurst users pls post their highest download speed for the month. Presently I am riding a donkey at 116kb/s.:mad:
 
Capetonians pls help. I just want to check if I am maybe a moron. My needle is frozen on a signal of 80% but my download speed is between 10 and 100 Kb/s.
 
You can get near full speed in Cape Town, which tower are you connecting to?

My highest for the month would be around 80-100KB/s ie. 700-800kbps, but my connections isn't that great anymore, I have less than 80% signal. These speeds are only at night..

If you're in the CBD, well that's the most congested tower afaik.
 
The towers that are available in the CBD are Gardens (better) and Holiday Inn (much worse) –
These towers including Seapoint & Century City are the worse towers in the country and browsing via them will cause you endless headaches, you could realistically expect to get 250 Kbps - 31.25 kilobytes / second max on a good day...

Note: Current speed = 273 Kbps

Normally, only after I have lodged several complaints to the Joburg & Cape Town management, do they actually do something about the connectivity issue - however come the next Monday morning we back to square one.

Move, or change ISP!

I am in the Mitchells Plain Area. So the my closes tower is possibly Cross Roads or "Khyalitha". Any Good??

Interesting, Luis Chin does not know what he is talking about since I was on the Plumstead tower and had very good speeds close to or at max most the time WITHOUT an antenna.:D

This alone shows you that you can't go by what they tell you.:rolleyes:

I have informed them on several occasions that it is not the actual towers as the RF signals are in order. The issue lies somewhere between the feed to the towers in Cape Town’s CBD and the upstream providers, but then I’m only a UTD user.

It is so unfortunate that they do not see users of their service as their partners in creating an optimum functioning network; instead they implement shaping and other draconian measures.

I’ve had several conversations with Mr. Chin regarding this topic and explained to him while his Joburg based systems reports no issues in Cape Town’s CBD the network is heavily degraded and unstable.

This drama just continues, however I am committed to the iBurst technology and resolving the Cape Town connectivity issues, with or without their help.

Speed

Hi, I am in the Kraaifontein Area, and with the new base station on top of Doxa Deo Church in Langeberg Ridge area I am getting a download speed of about 860kbps and 267kbps without an omni antenna.

Also, Cronan, There is no base station in Cross Roads or "Khyalitha. You are maybe picking up Plumstead or Kenilworth Base station.
 
Slap me silly. I don't know anything about towers but the helpdesk told me my tower is in Cross Road area, near the Airport. I wonder who's airport!
In any case you seams to be flying on the net at that speeds. With that long tower that look like a plam three you should get so nice speeds. At the moment I got a signal of 70% and a speed of about 33Kb/s.

I made some adjustments to the antena and get a signal of 100%, however I am only getting a download speed of 0 to 66Kb/s. What else if anything can I do to increase the speed??
 
Use UTtracestar, if you haven't already, it should help you adjust the antenna perfectly. Other than that, you'd have to buy a better antenna, there're quite a few threads on that..
 
Hmmmm I have a sneaking suspicioun this is merely a mistunderstanding about the difference between kBs and kbs.

I loath how internet suppliers advertise in bits when I do think we've moved far enough in time to start working with bytes and since everyone else advertises in bytes the average consumer is fooled into thinking his one megaBIT per second connection is a one megaBYTE connection.

116kBYTES per second is a great speed on iburst, bits on the other hand would be awful.
33kBYTES per second is what most of us are getting for day time speeds nowadays. Almost every tower is a little overloaded so if you want to see good speeds pray for midnight to come quickly.

I usually get around 80kB/s (~640kbps), but that is with a download manager with 4 links open. Interestingly enough I hardly ever see anything above 25kB/s (200kbps) when downloading with Firefox. I have my suspicions about the reasons behind this.

The iBurst Dashboard give speed in Kb (kilobits), KB is kilobytes, unless the dashboard is also a bop up.

The speed went bonkers last night up to 700 Kb/s, ONLY FOR FIVE MINUTES, then went back to 0 to 25 Kb/s. My signal is contsant 90 - 100% But speed:mad:
