Hi everyone can anyone confirm the download speeds of iburst.... as of last night I was downloading Adobe updates and Anime at a constant speed of 300-400KB/s last night without a download manager...

I'll load a screenshot later tonight

I guess it's because so many people had no connection with the storm that was raging last night?

My connection is erratic, to say the least! Very low download speeds...

And this is the one major weakness of iBurst - bad weather = bad iBurst.

I never get up to 400 but I have consistently got 150-200 over the past 2 weeks.

I have no idea why..... Maybe they are upgrading and me and you are the lucky ones?

I assume you mean kilobits? Or was it kilobytes?

Hmm, I was downloading a few things last night, but never saw speeds like that. Just the normal 90-120KB/s. And we are on the same basestation. Maybe some quirk in your browser's progress bar.

Would that it were true....

I also didnt experience anything major last night. I ran a few single threaded downlaods and they only went around 20-30 ish KB.

I hate it wehen I have to donwload things through my browser, so much slower.
Why doesnt one of the big browsers (I mean Opera obviously) just make multi threaded downlaoding a option at least.
I geuss its cause it doesnnt affect most people on ADSL.

Are you guys talking connection speeds or download speeds, cause damn! If I could ever download against 400kbs...well...words can't express my feelings.

My connection has been really **** lately, managing a mere 225kbs, downloading at +-40kbs. Seeing that I'm paying for a 1024kbs connection, do you guys think I'll get 75% off my bill next month?

good valid point man ....
if they do give discount on your bill ... that will be way cool ... and just imagine Telkom doing it ?? everybody will have ADSL for free
but then ... i think it's got more chance for the gates of hell to open in Poffadder and spit out money :D

"up to 1024kb" unfortuanatley you dont pay for 1024kb service.
Im shure you could be getting a lot faster speeds than that with a better signal shurley? Or it could be your tower/network problems....

Anyway, he was talking about connection speed, but not what you connection goes at, but just single threaded downloads. Which is a good indication for a fast connection.
ANd yes Tjorrie I could connect, I almost always can.. you got down time last night?

Not to sure about download speeds.Last night I downloaded a file (in the rain) from Microsoft at 61,7kilobytes per second.Fastest download recorded at work on a 1024 telscum line was 106 kilobytes per second. That was at 06:30 in the morning. Now that my i burst is sorted out it is far better than usihg hellkom which in my case is out for days after lightning strikes hit hellkoms lines. It takes 4 technicians from hellkom to work out what is going on.When you report the fault normal story:Sir we will charge you if your equipment is at fault etc etc.I am not that dumb although not a technological genius by any means.

My fastest download speed I ever had was a one-timer, went really wack, too fast to take a screen shot, i did 11megs in 1 second so technically 11000KB/s or if you wanna make it look cooler 88000kb/s :D not very believable but it happened!

Thats must have been chached content man, no wys the modem could even handle that speed, or the tower. they only have 20mb each.

the most ive ever got is 1.15mbs which was just during some regular very late night multi threaded download.
I can quite easily get over 1mb if I wait till really late at night.
Well, at least i used to be able to... Im doubting if ill be able to do that these days. but might just be lately.

download speed :D

I just dont see how this is possible. To my knowledge the current iBurst modems (e.g. UTD) and base stations only support up to 1Mbps. Your download is going at 2.6Mbps.

Since the file is already in pre-compressed form (video codec) it cant be further on-the fly compressed, which I dont believe iBurst do anyway.

So either the throughput reporting on your system is inaccurate or that download aint happening over an iBurst line.

BTW did the file download in under 9min by your timing (i.e. not what the PC said) ... if not, then the throughput info is inaccurate.

Well that is the question that I'm asking everyone else... cos at this point in time my download of Naruto and Bleach files are coming through at that speed... I couldn't believe it initially, as it was jumping at 400KB/s but it stabalized at around 350KB/s which I thought was cached somehow and it'll prob start crawling to 24KB/s but it didn't the file can through within 10 min (I watched it dl) and then I queued up naruto just to see if it was just that 1 file.
