Iburst Future.

Of the total number of iBurst subscribers, very few are here complaining.

Why flog a dying horse? I've downgraded my package to get closer to the usage I can actually achieve with the speed on offer and use iBurst as a backup in my load balancer. Recently my partner found the right person to talk to at Telkom to get a techie to spend a day tracing why we were getting 2Mbps on ADSL when a neighbour was getting over 6Mbps. If it holds up I'm going to get quite spoilt!

Checked out Hello Peter? There are a lot of complaints there, too, and generally over the same issues - accounts, connectivity, for example. I think that after awhile, people just give up. You have to remember that percentage-wise, the number of people who are actively involved in forums like these quite low and don't necessarily represent the real picture. Not that iBurst is alone - from people I know who have tried Neotel, I'd not risk going near them either.

December is here and still............................nothing...........neotel have LTE (face palm)

Guys, I've been with iBurst since August this year - simply because I'm only renting and therefore don't want a fixed line (and the additional costs involved). I've been very satisfied with the service, only experiencing the network being down for the first time this month..

I'm quite happy to support them - but maybe only because of my connection (I have 100% signal - but I sure know it can be a pain/problem if I want to move). I get decentish speeds on my 1mbps modem of around 80 - 100kbps on a good download. Would love to get much faster speeds though. SA is just so slowwwwww.

Recently I've been considering getting the 2mbps modem, but have decided to not be too irrational (R4400 is a lot of money for a modem) and will look at it in Q1 of 2013 - If the company is looking good and no other offerings (hopefully from iBurst) have swept me off my feet, that is.

I really hope iBurst have some plans to stay alive - it would be such a pity to lose such a service in SA. I have been reading alot though (but not seeing).

I have stuck with iBurst despirte problems in the lasat two years. Perhaps because of a comfort zone, or because I thought they would improve. In order to see Youtubes etc I bought a 12month prepaid from CellC just over a year ago, but I need more than 2G a month.
I have now reached my tether and have added 8ta in place of iBurst.

I have always had decent download speeds for the price I was paying, compared to having an expensive ADSL line.

I have been with Iburst a few years now already.... for R198 a month having 10Gig + 10 Gig .....I really cannot complain. Have had 2 double billing issues in the past...but no other significant problems...

I have been an iBurst subscriber for more years than I can count. I have done several account renewals.

The last renewal was an upgrade from my old slow 1 Meg modem to the new even slower 2 Meg modem.

I was pretty happy with iBurst until about 6 or so months before the 2 Meg modem upgrade. Since moving to the 2 Meg Modem, I have had no speed upgrade except for about half the time at night after midnight.

I am very unhappy with the slow speeds, high latency, complete lack of support and general lack of communication from iBurst about network upgrades and/or fixes.

Yes... I, like every other unhappy iBurst subscriber, can complain, but it's a futile exercise. Instead I look at other providers that supply wireless "broadband" in SA. I can't move to Telkom 'cos they don't supply ADSL in my area. That's another story for another day.

I pay R495/month for 25 Gig(day time) + 25 Gig(after midnight). 50 Gig total.

I usually use it all.

So, what are my options? (Not sure I have found the correct pricing)

1. Cell C - R599 for 3 Gig. That's R9983.33 for 50 Gig!!!
2. 8Ta - R3000 for 25 Gig. That's a little better, but still insane @R6000 for R50 Gig.

So, here I am sitting with an ISP that is so fricken cheep that I can't afford to move to another, and with horrible speeds and non-existent support.

I'm with iBurst for now and until my current contract is over in October 2014. That's when I will see how things look, and if the alternatives aren't MUCH more affordable, I'll be forced to stay on a month to month setup until I have better options. That's unless someone can provide an alternative and I can get out of my contract without having to chew an arm off to fork it over.

If setup correctly the 2 MB/s modem works especially in a good coverage area. Please PM me so we can check the firmware version and signal optimization. Have you tried the suggestions in the FAQ?

Unfortunately you are totally confused about the prices...

1. CellC
-Giga 20 - 5gb day 15gb night for R189 a month x 2 = R380 a month for 40gb
-Giga 20 + Giganite 20 = 5gb day 35gb night = R189 + R249 = R438 a month
-Giga 200 - 50gb day 150gb night @R1799 prepaid x 3 = R450 a month for 50gb
2. 8ta
-Internet 5 promo = 10gig day a month @ R199 + night surfer x 3 = 10gig night @R100 each = R499 a month for 40gb
3. ADSL (from Mweb)
-1mbps uncapped R339 per month including line rental

So ya lots of alternatives if you look. But if you are happy with terrible speeds and no customer support enjoy! oh and you don't have to spend R4000 on a modem, only R300.

Personally I would go with 2xGiga20s or 3xgiga 200s

Yeah I still have iburst been spending a lot of time on the iburst section of this forum, this should be my last month as i just switch over to a new ISP and speeds are amazing in fact 20 times better.

When looking at iburst apart from their services and support which is beyond bad their network is not too bad provided that you are close to the tower if you are not you will experience horrible speeds when the network is overloaded and adding an external antenna will not help you at all, my personal experience was ok speed during night's but during day time you can forget about it.

Not provided that a lot of people aren't even at home during the day i really don't know why the speeds are so slow, one would think that during the day when everyone is at work speeds should be quicker than at nights when everyone is home and online. Thus however is not the case and nobody most likely have any idea why.

The future of iburst i don't think they really have a future tbh I'm looking at cellphone coverage growing by the day and prices coming down so it's a mere matter of time before most of the cellphone providers will be able to provide you with the same price range package as iburst would at the moment I'm paying R300 more for the same package i had on iburst or still have but comparing the speeds i actually save money cause i spend less time waiting for stuff to load or download i was shocked to see a 10MB file download in 15 seconds use to take me 20-30mins on iburst.

Anyone that actually believes iburst has any future should phone them and get prices on their skyeburst it's hilarious R5500 installation and R600 per GB and just that proves alone that they have no future when it comes down to technology they have redundant technology we all see cell towers been upgraded all the time, and speeds increase, while iburst is still using same modems same old towers. Launching Skye iburts at those redicolous prices also proofs to me that whoever is in charge of iburst most likely lives in a cave and has no idea what competition means.

Now it's also unlikely to see new iburst towers cause lets face it who in their right mind would spend money implementing redundant technology, right now they just milking the cow till everyone leaves, unless they have some super plan on how to catch up and compete in todays market.

The big question is if they can't provide decent speeds to ppl far away from the tower and those ppl start leaving how many of those ppl will it take to leave before iburst gets into financial problems, and then those close to the towers will one day log on to find out theirs no more iburst and because iburst doesn't really say much about this issue of speeds we'd be a fool to believe otherwise.

The positive side is that ppl will stil be getting iburst simply because we all get burned by other ISP some time or another, wonder how many ppl got CellC 2GB offer only to find out they can't use it cause it's too slow so bottom line in this country we get screwed all the time by speeds and as a general rule I would advise against getting a contract from any ISP and always keep them on a month-month basis, Have a look at the market cell providers would launch an amazing special on a 24 month contract once they have enough customers on that contract they drop their prices or increase their Bandwith to the exisitng new packages only iburst I have to say when they increased their Bandwith per package and dropped their prices anyone could apply for the new tarrifs, so in a way it's also sad to see their network degrading like that, cause they just might have had something special going.

Final word of advise to Iburst before i leave just get your support side in order that will make a huge difference already, every single email you get be so kind as to answer it, it takes time, but your connecting with your customer and that is actually appreciated by a lot of ppl, sending emails to iburst and you never hear from them again that just doesn't go well down for I would say anyone using Iburst and i really hope deep in my heart you survive, cause i really enjoyed using iburst, wel enjoyed it 5 years ago :)

So I had to post again, for those reading.

I was happy for 2 days with my new ISP and then reality started sinking in with the faster connection I'm using more bandwith, where iburst would normally just load and load a browser till days end and I would eventually stop it when I had enough info on the webpage to read, the new connection loaded it in couple secs flat out and thus my bandwith usage went up a lot in fact where 20GB on iburst would be enough i calculated that i would fall short by at least 10GB on the fast and new isp connection.

The wireless fixed line look alike awesome product only allows one package per customer and you can purchase or upgrade your package 10GB during day and 10GB during night and that's it, need more then pay out of bundle rates R205 per GB so I'm screwed again and force to keep iburst around as a backup for when I run out of GB on the super fast connection.

This sucks, that's all I can say and seems I will be stucked with iburst until Telkom realize that they can make more money if they upgrade their allowed package per customer.
