Ok iburst in Northcliff has always been bad and even though there were promises made of new tower or tower upgrade soon i think that almost a year later it is safe to assume that soon is still a long way away.

Lately iburst has just been getting slower and slower during day and night, the connection is incosistent with many disconnections, today at 2pm i tried some pings average of other 250ms to iburst.co.za every time with most international averages between about 1300 and 3000ms pings. Usually speed is even worse at night so i fear my pings later today.

What i would like to know is how many others are suffering from constant degrading of speed and consistency cos seriously i am getting really sick of iburst with constant promises and nothing happening and they must not use that stupid nowhere to put new tower excuse cos there is a new shopping centre closeby that would be perfect for a tower they just don't wanna pay.

I've faxed my cancellation to iBurst last week.

I get full (5 bars) HSDPA reception where I live, played around with HSDPA - and it's a lot faster than iBurst.

When downloading updates for AVG, iBurst normally downloaded at 32kbps, whereas HSDPA does it at 72kbps. Also tested YouTube + Apple Mac ads, much faster with HSDPA.

I'm very sad, cos I've been a loyal iBurst subscriber for three years.

I can't tell you all the technical points/comparisons. All I know is I've been showing off that iBurst was almost 3 times faster than my father-in-law's 384 Telkom line.

I went there the other night and played around, and OH MY FREAK!!!! iBurst has NOTHING on Telkom (other than not having Telkom in the direct name)

I have a feeling iBurst is going to be losing out VERY soon.

Vote With Your Pocket

Some companies just never learn. Queries logged several weeks ago remain unanswered with an overall deterioration in the quality of service. Do what I have done and simply stop paying them. We no what happened to Sentech as a result of their arrogance - Iburst is no doubt determined to go down that road too.

Cape Town connectivity is terrible!

Any site/download that is not cached is terribly slow, P2P non-existent (9G account), VoIP is unusable, timeouts are high, VPN is useless, mail server doesn’t work. And when I contact the management in Joburg they actually have the audacity to insinuate that it could be my connection even after I forwarded a text file reflecting my signal strength of -44dB.

When you approach the management in Cape Town you get a prompt reply, (pasted below) - to me this would be acceptable if it was a minor issue on the network that lasted for a day or two, not a week or two. A Telkom dial-up is faster and more consistent.

“At this stage it remains a process of elimination until we can identify the root of this problem. I can assure you that we are trying everything possible to solve this situation and will keep you duly informed.”

I have the solution; remove the ****ing proxy server, stop port prioritisation and supply the bandwidth I am paying for!

EDIT: from ICASA Ruling on ADSL, published in the Government Gazette, 17 Aug 2006 - "5. Port Prioritisation Telkom, SNO and ISP's shall not be allowed to impose port prioritisation on their subscribers."

That is a lie. iBurst has stated that the P2P situation is as it should be. See the other thread about it.

Connection Freeze

I've been having this problem that my iBurst connection just disconnects randomly but the icon in the taskbar still states that I'm connected. When I click on the icon...err...nothing happens...when I ping google it tells me the service is not available...when I restart my PC it give some connection taskbar error and hangs on the shutdown screen. If I then reset the machine and connect the iBurst all seem fine (except the slow speed) for about a day and then the same thing happens again  ..I never had this problem before.

Have you tried running http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/cleanup.htm see if this helps (registry entry might be corrupt), if not remove and re-install the crappy iBurst software - suggest you use a router instead...

Hmmm, mine has been and still seems fine EXCEPT for the browsing which for some reason is faster when I'm capped.

This problem started since that iBurst proxy server was put in service, before you know it we'll end up with the same cr@p as they have in JHB.

TO THE CT IBURST TECH TEAM: <----I'm been polite since I have a better name for them.
PUT THE SYSTEM BACK AS IT WAS BEFORE YOU ADDED THAT PROXY SERVER SINCE IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY!!!!!

I keep getting continous disconnections lately with iburst... I've already got a DSL line setup - now to wait for telkom to fix the ports... stupid telkom

Well I can assure you Gardens & Sea Point towers have more crap than Joburg - I can't use VoIP, VPN, RD, browsing times out if not cached, P2P is useless, the mail server doesn’t work - **** I don't know what I'm paying them for. Have even gone as far as installing a dual wan router - it's better but Telkom dial-up is still best! There is just no bandwidth available, I achieve max speed at 250kbps.

I’m frustrated, don’t know what to do anymore R 2 297 per month for no service and frustration – it's not on! I've lodged a complaint at ICASA & ASA.

Get yourself a Huawei E220 3G/HSDPA modem + a Vodacom pre-paid sim card - and the pain will stop. :)

Was about to sign up for that R89 thingy from iBurst, but thank goodness this forum brought me down to earth with a bump.

So I'll wait for a little while longer. :(

iBurst used to be a good alternative to ADSL, but now it's starting to fall behind. At the MyADSL conference, the iBurst rep was talking about upping it to 2Mpbs, but then all went quiet.

Now they're starting to charge people a 'connection fee', penalising people that wants to 'downgrade' their account and all these stupid 20MB/40MB packages.

I'm starting to see warning signs....

Thanks for the suggestion kingrob, but Vodacom is worse – tested it in Moulli Point, Gardens and the 250kbps of iBurst is still better but I’m paying for 1 Mbps which has always been achievable - 30 meters from tower with -44dB signal…

Not using iBurst software....still getting disconnects :(

Which tower do you connect to and what is your signal strength in dB, have you removed any viruses/malware/adware from your pc recently? Are you using XP?
