I came across this site www.iburst.org, it's the homepage of the iBA (iBurst Association). So basically it's useless except that they signed an international roaming agreement about a month ago.

I always wondered if we could use the same iBurst connection/modem in other countries with iBurst, and now apparently you can.

"iBurst user shall be able to enjoy the same iBurst broadband access in Lebanon, Malaysia, South Africa, Australia, Azerbaijan, Kenya, Tanzania, Norway, and Canada. Nonetheless, with every month new iBurst operations are lightning up and vaster regional roaming will be possible."

America should also be on the list, but only small regions are covered by one or two providers.

There is nothing mentioned about cost, but I can imagine iBurst SA trying to set up the whole process.

Maybe you will keep your current contract and just pay your normal rate if they are assuming you will be coming back within a month or two max?

"The purpose of this MoU is to establish an International Subscriber Roaming Access service between member iBurst Operators in countries worldwide to create excellent subscriber experience that encompasses convenience, offers unlimited easy access to broadband services from anywhere and anytime worldwide, and at inexpensive rates."

Now they can hook you to your contract even when you are going overseas...there's no escaping the Iburst now!

Hahah true true, except you might actually want to be on iBurst overseas.

$34 (US) for uncapped iBurst sounds a bit better doesn't it? And it will probably work too...

Pipedream if you ask me - everyone is on a different frequency, so you'll have to rent a modem...

Just another PR stunt like the proposed speed upgrade, the CBD knows all about speed upgrades from >1 Mbps to < 150 Kbps...

EDIT: http://mybroadband.co.za/nephp/?m=show&id=6579

What a load of hogwash...

“Current iBurst systems allow connectivity up to 1 Mbit/s for each subscriber, but future firmware upgrade possibilities promise speeds of up to 5 Mbit/s,” iBurst said. - we have been promised the future before... This time round you don't need a new modem, yeah right.

“An added advantage for the mobile office and international commuters is the fact that broadband users can achieve normal broadband speeds when moving at high speeds in a car or while on a train or bus, making iBurst truly mobile wireless broadband,” iBurst concluded." - have you ever tried walking around the room with your notebook while you are on the net?

Our beloved iBurst haven't even mentioned this... Yet they are part of the group who signed the agreement.

Probably waiting to sort everything out first, and I think you're right who.is, that's why people couldn't import iBurst modems cheaply from Australia a or two year ago...

no, IBurst does not offer this as yet... I'm sure they have enough problems right now, lets stop them bugging about roaming
