I don't have any major gripes about iBurst, so kudos iBurst (about time someone started a thread where people can compliment iBurst instead of complain...)

While I have no complaints about the service I receive (and no stolen cables to complain about ;)), I am less than impressed with the recent "upgrade".

Today I dont have any problems with Iburst! ... but I moved over to ADSL yesterday :D Its a weird feeling to have a terminal session that stays open.... I can even delete the scripts Ive written.... :D

Currently downloading at around 100kB/s. April will be my last month on iBurst I suspect.

Well with Ed's superior support iburst was heading in a great direction... but we'll have to see who fills his shoes now that he's leaving :(

I'm from Krugersdorp, and haven't had much trouble with iBurst as of yet. The most trouble I've had was 5 minutes downtime while they did repair on the Kenmare tower...

Not to worry, things will change soon and you will eventually sing to the same tune as those of us who have been having issues for some time with no hope in sight of these changing ;)

Happy it works for you though :)

Only time i get closest to the 1mb limit is in the mornings around 7 or 8, downloads go at 100K + :D

I download WAAAAY above 100KB/s constantly... Why are you still with iBurst if it gives you such a lot of trouble, RVFmal?

I could only wish.

As with a lot of subscribers, I don't have much of a choice. ADSL is about 6 eaons away, Vodacom - cannot justify their prices, and MTN, well same as Vodacom until their latest price drop.

Just have to make sure that by moving to another SP, I am going to get a better product before lumping the paperweight.

This could have been me praising iBurst in May 2005. This is the performance I experienced without an external antenna.

Before the end on the year, I had to have an external directional antenna.

I then had a succession of very good technicians positioning the antenna.

The 8m mast plus a Radiant high gain yagi followed. My download speed now is under 400 kbps.

My ADSL is downloading at a constant 434KB/Sec.

As long as your base station (Kenmare?) remains under-subscribed, your performance will continue to be very good.
Long may it continue that way.
Unfortunately, the Randburg / Sandton area is becoming over-subscribed despite the base station expansion.

This is what kills iBurst performance.

Throw bad product development and bad marketing into the mix - you have a consumer revolution with the consumers voting with their wallets.

Amen!!

I have seen my speed fluctuating from 3kb/s (yes) to just about 100kB/s.

Why do I need to buy an antenna to sponsor iBurst's infrastructure changes etc?

Sorry, no go!

I'm happy if we're on the one tower that isn't overloaded :) That's quite some download speed for ADSL! I am assuming it's the 4MB line? Is it still only in the testing phase?

But I still don't know if I'd go for ADSL, I mean.... It's Telkom

Neither me nor anyone I know has had good experiences with Telkom's internet (or anything else for that matter), so even if my download speed is less than ADSL 4MB, I'm happy with iBurst. :)

Why cut yur nose off to spite your face when iBurst service and cost is seemingly not that much better than what Telkom can offer.

Yeah it doesn't make economic sense using iBurst if you already have a huge phoneline. For the speed it gives me and the function it serves its worth the R469 a month.
